Better horse, race fitness shouldnt be a problem as he has won first time up after breaks of 773, 223 and 222 days in the past. Market will tell us more on the day.
By:
Yeah but he aint getting any younger is he?
By:
Hauturiere a better bet at 5/4 at Thurles and the Horse and Jockey Chase the same day a much more interesting race, Allaho, Envoi Allen, Appreciate Itandmore...
By:
Protektorat was not off a yard last time imo have a look at the Race his main objective was to get round and make sure he finished the Race out...Job done.

By:
This is his Gold Cup on Sunday....L'Homme Presse has bigger plans down the road....Do the Math.

By:
I would urge anybody to have a look at Protektorats last Race and if you think he was there to Win i suggest you take up tiddlywinks.

I'm with 'acey' on this. L'Homme Presse has had only two races in 2022, and missed an entire 2023.
By:
I can see the front two flip flopping in the betting.

no bet race could bbe anything

Will certainly brighten up a dull Weekend.

Lingfield optimistic for Sunday.... I like the sound of that.

Allaho on sunday is another that is worth opposing, I believe. Any double possible?
By:
LHP has won first time out three times (every season he's run in GB).
By:
Not sure if you can do a double lay!!!
Maybe see if one of the bet-builders offer that? If not, lay them singularly |
By:
cant do a double lay ttbofmk
By:
Of course you can't.
But it's another thing to post for the sake of it. Even though he won't lay either |
By:
Explain?
By:
He wont
By:
Lay both and roll over the steak same as a double innit.
By:
It is, true.
But who would do that? |
By:
If you're against 2 short priced favourites it's hardly the most ridiculous bet in the world , is it ?
By:
You would risk your winnings and stake on the 2nd bet?

acey, with due respect, Protektorat's "Gold Cup" was Haydock. Skelton said this time and time again before the race. He was clear that he was being set up for that race knowing it was unlikely he would win at Kempton or Cheltenham. It may be that you are correct and L'HdP is not good enough or not ready (very unlikely given his first time out record) but it is surely wrong to say that , in some way or other, this is the Gold Cup for Protektorat. He's had that and got battered. And he gives 4lb. Good luck with your punt. I shan't be playing too heavily but I would definitely not be backing the Skelton horse.

Glad to hear The Trainer keeping his gub shut this time after telling everybody he would not get beat in The Betfair Chase.
By:
That really was an eyecatching run last time by Protektorat Sunday stroll round and finish more or less on the snaff.

I mean i am a Fan of L'homme Presse but just not Tomorrow.
By:
acey, I love punters who are fans of horses. I doubt if I would describe 3rd in a middling handicap behind a novice who was battered last week as "eyecatching" but I admire your determined approach. We all have these horses. I followed See More Business (my former user name) for ever. he won more races than P mind you! I wish you the best tomorrow. I shall be playing small on L'HdP but we shall see. Good luck chap.

By:
I'm not sure why they ran Protektorat in the handicap last time, a mere 3 weeks after the Betfair Chase, it certainly wouldn't have been the plan, it was almost as if they were so disappointed and at a complete loss they were desperate to see him run again just to see if the Haydock run was real or not. I don't know what it told us, giving weight to vastly inferior horses in what ended up being slowly run, I suppose the horse had a nicer experience and as acey says he wasn't given a particularly hard time.
They'll be wanting to find out one or two things from LP tomorrow, with a truncated prep I think he'll be 100% ready to rock and they will be eager to see him up against a decent yardstick with the Gold Cup in mind. In a perfect world he'll lead all the way and pound the rest into submission. |
By:
Protektorat was ridden conservatively last time to say the least (a confidence builder) but that's probably why he ran well. I don't think he has a lot more up his sleeve and I don't think he beats the fav off levels let alone giving him weight
By:
Even the Racing Post described Protektorat's last run as eyecatching Donegal that is not just me....Anyway should be a fun Race to watch good luck.
By:
Not a race I would want to bet in and not just a 2 horse race but with the yard back in form I would side with Protektorat to beat a horse with 391 days off.
By:
But for the 4lbs concession to L'Homme Presse (LHP) I'd go all in. As it is only a treble, with only LHP to beat; Allaho has an easier task without Envoi Allen.
By:
Certainly not a Race to go all In Imp...Best Clash we have had for a couple of Weeks that is why i thought it was worth highlighting.

'acey', a good handicapper vs a promising but fragile horse that's missed 2023. Only a small acca with a shortie footie, Cheltenham and Newmarket.
