It was certainly the highlight of the day on my only visit to Clonmel which is why I remembered it,nothing else memorable at Clonmel which is probably the worst racecourse I’ve ever been to.

Go on give us a clue. What race, what horse and where can we see it please? Like trying to decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics if one didn`t see the race in question at the time it was transmitted LIVE!

Remember that well Mac , those were the days i worked on the track and stood as near to the first fence that was humanly possible , the greatest spectator experience in sport to watch as was then 40 horses taking off almost simultaneously.

Thanks Hayden for the clip. First time I`ve seen that in over 20 years! Amazing the horse and jockey survived that. I can`t mind what I bet that year but I remember being shocked when R N R won!
It was indeed a magnificent experience being at Aintree back in the day and watching this great sporting spectacle as it happened. Fields, crowds (and fences) were massive! Could cut the atmosphere with a knife.
I can even remember listening to the great race on radio way back in the 60s as a kid. Everybody in the street were huddled round my dad`s radio (only one in the street) bursting with excitement. The Fossa being a personal favourite, even although he never won it. Happy days!
