I am in my 80s with very poor mobility - both knees and hip shot along with COPD. I have always thoroughly enjoyed spending hours just sitting and watching the sea at its wildest/roughest. Before I reach the stage where even that becomes too difficult can any kind soul recommend hotels around our coast where i can just plonk myself down and watch without having to leave the hotel grounds.  Many thanks in advance.

Report Greenacres • January 3, 2024 1:48 PM GMT
High Crompton  a few miles outside Oldham.

That doesn’t sound good, Greenacres. I’m sure some will have some decent suggestions for you.

All the best.

Plenty of sea front hotels at Blackpool/Southport, pick one to suit your budget, should see plenty of wild and rough seas this time of year.

Llandudno the perfect place for that kind of break , sea front is beautiful.
Report scrabbler • January 3, 2024 3:35 PM GMT
He'll need a telescope to see the sea at Southport!
Report longbridge • January 3, 2024 3:44 PM GMT
The Atlantic Hotel at Newquay has pretty spectacular views of the sea and is a pleasant place to stay, though not the easiest to get to.

Romney bay house hotel little stone Kent .Over looking the English Channel.

Being Cornish, born and bred (11 years +) i would have suggested North Cornwall, but Longbridge beat me to it.

The Aussies certainly love it, Newquay is a surfing 'home from home' for them.

Sounds a damned good idea to me.

Fabulous hotel in Mullion Cove I attended once, high up, great sea views.  Sry, but the name escapes me.  Can't be hard to find.

This one perhaps, honcho?

Good evening greenacres

I would think from where you live you would struggle to beat Blackpool especially at this time of year the sea will be rough and plenty of the hotels will have entertainment on in the evenings.

A non racing tip I could give you is just around the corner from where you live is a really nice tapas restaurant/bar called la salsa

Good luck and take care

im sure he doesnt need to be told about southport is hes in oldham (how apt)

if travelling isnt a peoblem then the southern ocean, somewhere like elephant island is as rough as it gets. and you are following the great shackleton

less facetiously, derrynane, co. kerry. luvly spot. and keatings bar
Report Greenacres • January 3, 2024 6:45 PM GMT
Thank you, all. Sure I will find one from your recommendations.

Jimnast, know the 'La Salsa' well although never eaten there. Use the newsagents next door.

Morecambe is another nice place, looking out over the bay, and not too far from you. Second what Scrabbler says about Southport - not the best if you actually want to see the sea!

Staff a little inexperienced but try hard hard food very good excellent selection

The North West coast line is pretty bleak tbh. Arnside worth a visit if you have a car. Not exactly on the coast, basically it is the end of Morecambe Bay as it meets the River Kent. Lovely views over the Milnthorpe sands. Fastest incoming tide in the country, so watch out if you go paddling. Hooter sounds when tide turns.

Nice pub for lunch over looking the bay (the Fighting ****). Fine pub at Sandside at couple miles inland on the R. Kent as well. Free parking at Arnside as well.

Head up to Aberdeen and get a North Link Ferry to the Orkney Islands.

Get an outside cabin. This time of the year it ought to be proper nice trip with the waves crashing all round.

Pontins at Southport announced closure today. Filthy hole by all accounts so no surprise.

Greenacres- Smoky Hill is a good suggestion. At this time of year I suffer from SAD and use these Webcams to cheer me up. It's now four years since our last holiday due to covid and now my wife's on going health issues.
Here are a couple of my favourites.Clevedon Lake Webcam (Bristol Channel)..Lanzarote Beach Webcam PDC..Tenerife (several)...US Virgin Islands (beach cams)....There are hundreds of them all over the world and easy to find 24 hours a day.Hope this helps and good luck with your health.
