looks a belter atm , potential big field galopin ,gerri ,fastorslow plus one or 2  potential up an comers . gallopin heads the betting and a decent run 1st time up but been turned over twice since his gold cup win and too short for me . fastorslow and gerri columbe both look to be getting better and better and no suprise if any of this trio win but inlike to play at bigger prices and I AM MAXIMUS  one of several wpm runs is interesting imo, was promising when with hendo but its  since transfering to williehe  has started to shine , won the irish grand national as a novice so stamina shouldnt be an issue then won the drinmore on seasonal debut while still officially a novice over 2 4 miles ,ok that was only a novice but it was agrade 1 novice and the 2nd found a fifty didnt do the form any harm yesterday when winning the grade 1 at this course yesterday . i am maximus looks a battler who does enough to get the job done and seems to be improving and around 28/1 looks fair to me .
i like a few cracks of the whip at big prices and appreciate also looks a big price , a smart hurdler novice chaser he ran acracker 1st time up btn 1/2 length by the reopposing fastorslow with gallopin a close third the step up in trip could help and he hasnt much to find on fastorslow and can be backed at 25/1  which alsolooks fair imo. plenty with chances but at the prices i am happy with these two pokes.good luck opinions encouraged.
selections I AM MAXIMUS 28/1 & APPRECIATE IT 25/1 .........JUST SMALLISH BETS FOR NOW AS NEARER THE RACE THERE WILL BE BOG AND POSSIBLE 4 PLACE CONCESSIONS  WORTH TAKING ADVANTAGE OF.

Good write-up Foyles,
Funnily enough I had been thinking of I am maximus if the weather turned bad which it did.
More rain forecast and like a bog already,
I think he could out though the classier types.

Yes, looks a belter. The two Chievely Park horses are big prices (around 30 on here) given their back class, including at Leopardstown. Geri only beat Envoi by a neck at Down Royal. Arguably, Shishkin franked the Ryanair form in the King George.

good luck all ,yeah if this were the chelte gold cup  field  youd be happy, full of quality and easily the best race of the season so far so far ,and credit to connections for standing their ground so far ,although with the conditions one or 2 could come out hopefully they will all start . been a bit of money for maximus one of the sirs may  have put him up ,anyway whatever the result it s a race to savour .

I've got Maximus pegged as a Fairyhouse specialist at the moment, but as usual likely to be proved wrong. His stamina bound to be an asset tomorrow, and the Drinmore form has been franked. GL.

Funny you should say that strontium, talk was after his first race there people were saying he'd never run at that track again, as he kept jumping right ..
Report FOYLESWAR • December 27, 2023 10:07 PM GMT
he could get found out by these proven  top class horses but very lightly raced over fences and has  big field exp , i remember this horse running in different silks for hendo (black with some white iirc ) jp must have bought him last year .

I’m a big Gerri fan tomorrow. Needs to brush up his jumping but has an immense engine. GDC has to get back on track but conditions tomorrow will suit him. Can’t have Fastorslow on that ground tomorrow so putting line through him.
3/1 Gerri In Savills is better value than 7/2 in Gold Cup IMO. Going in both barrels Cool

Galopin des champs will get a better pace to aim at tomorrow. The distance and going will help him and if you can get 2/1 He'll carry my money.

A proper grade one no bet for me but I will be hoping for a big run from a plus tard to put him back in the gold cup picture ,enjoy everyone Happy

Would have thought Envoi Allen would be a non runner by now.
Doesn't stay 3 miles on fast ground, let alone this stuff.

Yep, all over a gold cup performance by Galopin des Champs, ridden close to the pace there. Still 6/4 ap with slybet with maybe a saver on Fastorslow @ 7.4 on here. Difficult to get excited about any of the other runners.

Much as I can see Galopin Des Champs is the rightful favourite for the Gold cup I think 25/1 Bravemansgame is too big. Second to GDP last year he was unlucky in his first race this season, brought out too soon in the second against mud lover Royal Pagaille and interfered with. almost coming down in the King George before recovering to finish second to Hewick. Better ground and the extra two furlongs of the Gold cup and I can see him being competitive. I certainly haven't given up on him yet. Of course, there's always the chance of GDP getting injured (God forbid) before the Gold cup and I'd rather be on Bravemansgame at the prices. Look how close he got to GDP in the Punchestown Gold cup back in April... Nicholls will have him fresh and well prepared come March.
Report strontium • December 29, 2023 11:56 AM GMT
Agree entirely, the price differential is wrong.
Report Storm Alert • December 29, 2023 1:55 PM GMT
Mayb e downgrade Galopin des Champs impressive win a bit having watched Townsend steer Grangeclare West the same wide course and also look very impressive late on with a wide margin win.
Report brandyontherocks • December 29, 2023 2:03 PM GMT
It does amaze me how poor most jockeys are when plotting a course.
Especially when it is day 3 or 4 of a festival.
Wetherby is a course where being wide is a must.
Ascot in midwinter.
Cheltenham on the new course.
But only a handful of jockeys are clued up to this.
Townend well educated by Walsh on the importance of being wide.
