3.15 Hereford – Billingsley – 25/1 Bet365 BOG – EW – 1/5 odds first 4 (22/1 gen)
A working mans price for an outsider with a squeek. Back in the day this fellow starting off in chases off a workable mark of 117 putting together a hat-trick of wins in class 4 and 3 handicap chases, seeing his mark raise to 136.
Well that was the peak and he didn’t visit the winners enclosure until two years later in Feb of 2022 when winning a class 4 Hcap chase off a rating of 103. Raised to 111, it took him another 15 month before winning again off a rating of 102, the fav falling at the second last when challenging.
He’s shown form when placed in 3 of his 5 races preceding that win the best of which when wearing cheekpieces for the first time (has them on today).
Was placed 3 of 8 btn 3l after a similar break on his seasonal start last year so can go well when fresh.
As an 11yo he’s the old man of the party and nowadays seems better suited by today’s 20 furlongs.
Ran 2nd in a similar race to this last Feb when fav for a class 5 hcap chase (same today) when the front running Rooster Cogburn remembered he was a racehorse.
Has an inexperienced claimer which is a worry, but at 25/1 you can’t have everything going your way.
