I've got to admit Moore is riding much better this season and most of last too; I do not know the improved form, the difference is palpable. Prior he was diabolical esp at Ascot. So many of his fancied rides mostly favs lost because Moore was caught napping at the start. Also, his fav passage up the inside next to the rail was repeatedly met with traffic resembling those at rush hour in Central London.

A combination. It took him a long time to fully recover from that significant injury he got in the stalls, in my opinion. Definitely changed mindset and riding more aggressively. And, AOB is in a purple patch, a very strong group of horses currently, after a quiet period.

One thing you have to eradicate from the brain when forming past vs present opinions is nostalgia , which i believe plenty are swayed by in all sports.

I think given his exploits in Australia (won their big 3 plus a whole host of others) Ryan would’ve had his pick of pretty much whoever he liked here so sticking with Vauban is a positive.
Just notice who that slippery so and so Mullins got to ride the other one…Zac Purton lol no1 jockey in Hong Kong.
So maybe Absurde is the one to be one.
Happy enough with Vauban though…they deserve it after Frankie messed up the ride on Max Dynamite.

I think all this comparison stuff is an age thing , as with music comparing sixties , eighties and so on , people tend to favour when they were in their own perceived prime or whenever their best life memories happened.

Yes and no. Technology has killed the need for humans to be genuinely gifted in a lot of areas. For example, bo rap just wouldn't get made now, all by a machine. Who knows what genuine AI will do.

Yes, you expect sportsmen to improve over time as equipment, techniques, diet, sports science & training methods improve. Also, new records that are set then become the new targets that people aim for.

This is "the race that stops a nation".There is 18 race meetings taking place in Australia tomorrow. I've a small interest in last years winner Gold Trip. Good luck all.

If you use a VPN selecting an Australian router and you switch your betfair account address to a Victoria post code then you can log into BF Australia and lay Vauban at 3.25 instead of the 4.1 for us Brits.
Just remember to factor in the GBP-AUD rate for your trade.

wasn't 9/4 Acey, it was 5.9 as they were going in the stalls, but nice shout nonetheless.
cracking ride on the winner, ignored the suicidal pace.
10.1's for the Caulfield Cup winner

Good shout on Vauban Acey. You are totally wrong on your remarks about NSW not being interested in "Race of the Nation". I was in Port Macquarie in northern NSW a decade or so back on Melbourne Cup day. The streets were full of ladies in their racing finery off to the pubs and clubs, it was quite amazing.

Just watched the race. The fav Vauban was in a good position coming off the bend with stablemate Absurde alongside. I think Vauban did not get home.
How can a horse who's never won a competitive 2m flat race start fav in a GP 1 handicap in Australia? Hoodwinked (by connections) or greed (easy money) perhaps a rather common phenomenon in this game.
Btw, another crass runner is Serpentine - the horse gifted the Epsom Derby - is plying his trade in Australia too. The horse has never won a race since Epsom, and trounced out-of-sight over this distance (2m). He finished 19th in a 23-runner race.

An Epsom Derby winner sold by Coolmore? An alarm bell in itself to me. What an astute sale by Coolmore? A double whammy by buyer buying the horse and subsequently gelding it. All or nothing gamble which did not pay off.

'acey', well done. Vauban was running for the bookies. I understand his stablemate was backed before the off. Btw how do you post a picture like you did of Without A Fight on this forum? I've just learned using emoji.

Crooks trying to rob punters blind with 9-4 quote. Sp 9-2. This is where were at in the game. Scared of their own shadow. No guts to even go 3s and take a few pennies. It was a 23 runner foreign handicap ffs.

I’m a massive mullings fan but travelling half way around the world is not my idea of a good thing even at decent prices so didn’t surprise me either way

'acey', just ignore the trollers. Nothing will please them...only their own (?). Personally, whether it's 9/4 or 3/1 or 5/1 is immaterial. If I was that way inclined I'd 'lay' accordingly eg how much I was prepared to risk?
Allaho, the unknown? Post injury this is a guess work unless with inside info. I think more will be known post Clonmel today.
