Cheers acey.....i remember now. The old grey matter not what it used to be. Dick Hern and Willie Carson....i used to work with Willies son Tony who now trains. Every horse Willie told his son to have a few quid on always won about 1 or 2 a month but from what i remember they always won with Willie riding them. They were great daysHappy

Steve Cauthen for me....

So wanted to be like him that in my first ride i was so concentrating on pushing the horse out with the whip in the "periscope" position, i completely forgot to hit him behind the saddle and got beaten into second

Who was your first ride cacinque ?

Apprentice race up the curragh back in the late 90's.

Pat Smullen (RIP) was in the race.
Jamie Spencer had rung up to try and get my mount

Fell off the same horse schooling 3 days later and spent 3 months in hospital so that put an end to my jockey career. (Not being good didn't help either)

i had 2 'hero' trainers back then . one for each code . henry cecil on the flat and just as important to me,  michael dickinson over the jumps . the 1983 cheltenham  gold cup day was my first . i can still remember watching the famous 5 go past the post like it was yesterday .
