The above has set a date for the referral hearing regarding the running and riding of the Dennis-Hogan-trained Yuften in a claimer at Dundalk in March 2020. This race took place over 3 1/2 years ago. Why now? What has the IHRB been doing since March 2020?

I've watched the above race several times. But, why now? Why this stable after 3 1/2 years have elapsed? I've witnessed much much worse of Irish Racing than the above race, but no action has been taken by local stewards or IRHB.

One race I can still remember vividly. Joseph O'Brien had two runners in the race; one an odds-on shot but drifted markedly just before the off very similar to the race in question above; the other runner was backed from double digit into low single digit. The latter was "gifted" a very soft lead of many, many lengths; the former (odds-on shot) ridden with restrain amongst the chasing pack.

And, the winner won with plenty to spare. But, no stewards enquiry or IHRB attention. Why? A rule for the big boys; a rule for the minnows. Please enlighten IHRB. By the way I've stopped betting on Irish Racing.

That was at Leopardstown and was as blatant as you would ever see. And yes not a thing done. If you're name is Mullins, O'brien or Walsh carry on as you like. Nobody saw anything. Nappy O'brien should have been warned off for a year after that stunt.

R Post page 7 yesterday, re the wrong horse winning at Killarney last Saturday:

IRTA [Irish Racehorse Trainers Assn] chief Ryan McElligot said scanning horses prior to their entry into the parade ring would help prevent such an incident from happening again.

No argument there. Just follow the same procedure as in GB. Simple. So, what is the response of the IHRB?

The IHRB said it would be reviewing procedures, but stressed the onus was on the trainer to saddle the correct horse.

They've not done a thing about it in other words, and won't be any time soon either.

Another gem from that article:

... only winners [are] scanned post-race ...

So, as long as you don't make the mistake of winning a race in Ireland, you can effectively run as many ringers as you like.

The BHA need to take a stand. Refuse to accept entries from Ireland for GB handicaps unless the horse has run three times in GB under proper GB rules.

I 2nd that 'screaming...'. The IHRB is so laid-back and acts on a whim. The above event happened 3 1/2 years ago and only acted now; the incident regarding the running of Joseph O'Brien's two runners at Leopardstown was never acknowledged or looked into. It's without surprise so many unexplained funny results still happen on a regular basis esp with big stables in Ireland.

I think in Ireland IHRB works on the basis of camaraderie ie it's who you are.

Let them run but give them automatic top weight.

Should apply to any horse, regardless of where it is trained.

Handicapper can rate them on what he has seen over the distance of the race....

And if they turn out to be a maiden future Group 1 horse, so be it.

Not like you to see everything wrong in Ireland only Shocked

'cacique', I thought that was the case ie top weight for any oversea runner in a handicap. Maybe it was in the past.

'MJK', it's not Ireland specific, just Irish Racing is the next most prevalent after British ones. Nevertheless, the regular occurrences of dodgy races including Gd 1 NH in Ireland involving 2 or more runners from the same big have tended to give results not accordance to given forms of horses.

Hence, I've voted with my money and opted not to participated anymore. So far it's paid dividend and stress-free.

You mean like the Hamdan good thing today at Ascot legless and his other one nearly winning at a big price?

Report cacique October 7, 2023 7:36 PM BST
I think it used to be alright...
And I also think there was time if you didn't finish within a furlong, or some distance, of the winner you didn't get a placing.

But it beggars belief that a horse can get handicapped at a mile and then run in a mile and half and the handicapper thinks its ok.

The entries are all online, they have a database, if they can't assess any horse, particularly an Irish one, they don't take the entry saying they have insufficient evidence to allocate it a fair handicap to make the race competitive.

Seems simple to me.

In a statement issued on Saturday, a spokesperson for the BHA, which was contracted to provide integrity monitoring services to the IHRB in a €350,000 five-year deal that was terminated in July last year, said: “The BHA’s integrity department flagged concerns about the situation on multiple occasions on the day of the incident.

“Firstly, the unusual betting patterns were flagged to the stewards and other IHRB personnel pre-race.

“The BHA’s integrity department then watched the race and, after the incident with the unseated rider, contacted the stewards, and subsequently the IHRB’s integrity department, to encourage them to seek an explanation from the rider. This message was then reiterated in the end-of-day report.

“The BHA also commenced preliminary betting enquiries. This included contacting various operators raising concerns and seeking a review of markets and bets placed, the results of which were relayed to the IHRB.”
