Report jimnast October 1, 2023 10:36 AM BST
I remember that mm but like you don’t remember the horses name,I can remember the likes of marwell and lochsong winning.
Report 1st time poster October 1, 2023 10:41 AM BST
i was there yr lochsong won, didnt back it on the strength of some loudmouth on coach sat behind me,in hotel,in local bar, going to track, going on about it for 48 hrs before race,he was right of course but i thought i,m backing against this even  if its the last bet i ever had and having you all the way home LaughLaugh

Usually ran in a bog, with big field and a huge draw bias.

Possibly upside down today, as a lot of rags drawn low, and possibly quicker going than usual.

The fav is on the downgrade for me, so it's not an easy race to work out today.

Sat in front of Mendip Man's owners on that glorious day many years ago . Done two Brits on the PMU today just for the interest and to see how it works out .....

Doesnt quite look that bad jimnast, Horses are rated from 103 to 117, maybe no stand out performer or superstar but doesnt seem a bad renewal to me. Mabs Cross was 110 when winnig it I think, Platinum Queen similar. A Case of You 108, Maarek 108 - just no stand out performer this year.
Report Tiger Tiger October 1, 2023 12:26 PM BST
Platinum Queen was getting a lot of weight of course.

Moss Tucker is on the upgrade at the right time, beaten twice by Art Power earlier in year he won a group 3, then won the G1 Flying Five both at the Curragh with Art Power behind.
Got to give fav 4lb but ran well in this last year to finish 5th having missed the break, tough race again and luck in running will play a part, but 10/1 on here seems slightly on the generous side with 6/5 to be in first four for cover hopefully.

My choice as well, good luck.

Good afternoon tiger

I suppose it is better than a thirsk sprint but nothing like a championship group one sprint.

If I owned big gossey I’d have entered him
Report Tiger Tiger October 1, 2023 12:38 PM BST
Afters jimnast, yes I agree with that sentiment. The better going this year should give is a competitive race, looks open as can be but the way Moss Tucker missed the break last year and still finished 5th and a good Griup 1 win behind him in the Flying Five looks to big to me, win and place. Good luck.
Report Cider October 1, 2023 12:58 PM BST
Moss Tucker is appealing, but on the recent history of the race, stall 11 is not. As I mentioned up thread, most of the protagonists are not drawn low either, so it balances out somewhat. I don't know enough about the track to know if the bias remains when the going is not as deep as it usually is for this race. Rogue Lightening is unexposed and appeals, apart from the apparent terrible draw. So does Get Ahead, who in theory has a more favourable slot. At this point I just know that I want to take on the jolly.

Overdose the Hungarian horse and also remember Kincsem too.

Early 80's , Moorestyle, Marwell,Sharpo, Habibti, not a bad quartet!,  didn't a moderate hcppr win it sometime after, can't remember its name!
Report onthejim October 2, 2023 6:15 PM BST
Got me at it so had to look it up. 1998 My Best Valentine, 8yr old trained by Vic Soane!!, must have been  easily his biggest winner.
Report second again October 3, 2023 1:22 PM BST
I think it is a bit harsh to call My Best Valentine a moderate handicapper.
Report jimnast October 3, 2023 1:35 PM BST
There were others onthejim a case of you, move in time, never golf rose and plenty more who wouldn’t get within a furlong of the likes of moorstyle, marwell and dayjur.
Report jimnast October 3, 2023 1:37 PM BST
To be fair to this years winner she is a very good horse taking nothing away from her as she has been on the go all year but the opposition was woeful.
Report Cider October 3, 2023 2:51 PM BST
I backed a few of the low drawn rags in the end, so of course somehow Highfield Princess beat me, from the theoretically poor draw and being hard driven for the entire race. That track is in desperate need to be reconfigured as it was an utter mess.
Report jimnast October 3, 2023 3:00 PM BST
There’s a good point cider about the track.
Report second again October 3, 2023 3:10 PM BST
Is the draw bias  so strong on fast going?
Report Cider October 3, 2023 3:19 PM BST
I'd say so, Perdika was winning bar the last 50 yrds or so. But the jockeys rode for it anyway, so got in each others way.
