I think unless a 3yr old wins this ARC will be forgotten the next day. I cannot see any other winner be remembered as fondly as Sea The Stars, Treve or Enable or Golden Horn.

Not sure, impossible. In the 30 odd runnings of the Arc I have witnessed, I don't think the performance of the 4 year old Sakhee has been bettered personally.

I'm not familiar with Sakhee except he was a Godolphin horse. Post googling I gather he was 2nd to Sinndar (an ARC winner) at Epsom. Found and Golden Horn also won the ARC but were defeated in America; the latter post a massive deluge before the race.
But, I do not think there's a Sakhee amongst the older generation here unless Hukum turns out to be a late developer. The rest are much of a muchness, I'd confidently predict.

I was not into horseracing diligently then. I was mainly into big races eg The Derby, etc. Maybe Sakhee did not win anything major as a 3 yr old.
I remember backing Sinndar at Epsom (a tip), and Sinndar won the ARC the same year; Sakhee won a sub-standard ARC perhaps a year later.

Sakhee was well beaten by Sinndar at Epsom..but,then again Sinndar was one of the most under-rated Derby and Arc winners imo...Sakhee was with John Dunlop at 3 then moved to Godolphin at 4 I think

'jimnast', I did not because Sakhee was annihilated in the Eclipse. But, I agree with others Dancing Brave was very good beating Bering - another exceptional horse.

Hookum looks to be a decent horse, we could find out he is decent, if he wins today.
Surely sea bird was best arc winner.Maybe Frankel could have challenged that.Hookum looks to be a decent horse, we could findout he is decent, if he wins today.

You're right Jimnast - Sangsters - I remember as a student just starting UNI - it was my first day - I saw it very unlucky in it's previous race and missed getting on the Arc - listened on radio with my dad, depressed to hear it bursting through to win at about 8 to 1 I think - early days of an illustrious betting career - NOT! :) - ah well, it'll all be over soon enough. :D ..... won't be betting in the Arc - never any use to me, even laid last year's winner - how could that jock win an arc.... yeuk.

notwithstanding the Ascot romp, for me he was past his best at 4. Travelled with his usual panache but didn't find once let down. I personally put it down to running on the hard ground in Tokyo.

Hukum last 4 races on RH tracks 1111 Draw a neg and going a touch quicker than ideal but he has an excellent record on good. Around 13/2 on the machine looks a very fair price IMO. The Japanese horse looks interesting as it has improved a lot from 4yo-5yo

That draw was an absolute killer and throw in the quicker going. I still played because he's done me a good few turns over the years but lost the minimum I could there. But like you say, he wouldn't have beat the winner even with ideal conditions.

Just caught a replay of the race, super win. Looking at the results seems as though most of the form horses/fancied ones won. Maybe next season they should have a Royal Longchamp instead of Ascot.

jimnast 01 Oct 23 15:57 Apologies sparrow if that was the case
I was just talking about Ace Impact but for me Sea Bird in 1965 was the very best I have seen.
