A thinly veiled advert for their self-service betting terminals imo.

Fewer till operators required = fewer staff to pay.

a group of koral execs got together and decided to come up with the wackiest wager youve ever seen and pretend an anonymous geezer in an dismal gaff in the state of yorkshire had it right off

all were, of course, sworn to secrecy. this is what happened;

'lets make up bet- nobby-you put in some nutty football, herbet, you plonk in a bit of tennis, tristran, find some obscure extreme hopscotch and chuck that in as well. how many events should we invent? 10? naa, not wacky enuff. 20. mmm. lets really push the boat out, how about 30?

'thirty!! youisavinalaff-nobody will believe it.'

'course they will, we only have to fear the betfair forum, but nobody reads that any more so we are sweet'

'what if we get caught?, we will all be sacked'

'never mind, if nobody squeals we can pull this off'

'but why? whats in it for us?'

'never mind. its a giggle and we will make the daily star'

all; 'ok. lets do this!'

trebles all round

Yeah. Who would believe a mug punter would string together a load of odd-on shots? Has this ever happened before?

Never mind the racing shrewdies do the same thing every Cheltenham.

And the cashout was offered with only 2 legs left, apparently. After 28 winners, the guy was probably feeling lucky.

Scotland vs England – Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals (2.38)

If I'd done this acca, that one would have certainly ended 1-1 (all other results the same) - I don't think I've ever won an acca bet in my life with all events coining in. Had numerous with one leg missing though...

Fiver 30 selections acca? Hard to believe but if you have a penny in your pocket and double it 30 times it comes to over a million pounds.

I do a couple of these every week…but mostly on stuff I’m planning to watch.

You will be surprised by some of the odds on shots that get turned over.

Had one a couple months back that only had a few legs left but Penrith Panther managed to lose at 1/40.

Which had me thinking about a potential counter strategy to pick up a huge score.

I think Rugby in general has some wonky prices that can be exploited…just today Portugal nicked a draw vs Georgia…and they should’ve won too.

Super league, NRL and Union…got to be a way to land some sort of fantasy acca with outsiders imo.

By the way…how on earth do you scribble 30 selections on a that little slip of paper with one of them little betting shop pens?

Guy must have the best hand writing in the world imo.

Massive drop follows this trading statement from Entain.

It starts
Post the summer, Online Net Gaming Revenue (NGR) has been mixed across the Group, but in aggregate, softer than anticipated.  Q3 Online NGR growth is now expected to be up high single-digit percent, and down high single digit percent on a proforma basis.  Key drivers include:

·    Adverse sporting results impacting sports margins during September

·    Group wide implementation of industry leading safer gambling measures and ongoing regulatory headwinds persisting longer than expected, particularly in the UK

·    Slower growth than expected in Australia and Italy

·    Good underlying Online growth (ex-regulatory impacts) as evidenced by further strong proforma growth in active customers across the quarter

·    Strong performance from recent acquisitions, particularly SuperSport in Croatia

·    Robust performance across Retail

·    BetMGM in the US continuing to perform well: on track to deliver positive EBITDA in the second half of 2023; FY2023 NGR at the upper end of $1.8-$2.0bn guidance; and the successful rollout of Single Account Single Wallet, as well as online sportsbook enhancements supporting strong start to the NFL season

We now expect Group Online NGR for FY2023 to be up low double-digit percent with proforma NGR down low single digit percent.  We reiterate our expectations for FY2023 EBITDA to be in the range of £1.00bn-£1.05bn supported by robust operational controls.

Basically, too many winning punters (too many winning favs) and not enough punters (GC and all that malarkey).

Circle 3rd of November on your calendar for next update.

Translation of that bullet-point ^ just for you sparrow Grin

We implemented Affordability Checks voluntarily and way, way sooner than we had to. Additionally we (voluntarily) set them at a far lower level than was necessary (some might say we set them at a Draconian level). Having done that, the gambling review has dragged on and on, with delay after delay after delay, leaving us stuck in the ridiculous position that we chose to put ourselves into, for far longer than anticipated. This has cost us a bleedin' fortune in the short term.

sparrow I think more a case of 'jargon' in the best sense - specific words that mean specific things to people in a particular industry or profession.  They cannot use terms that are not 100% tightly-defined in communications to investors.

NGR - net gaming revenue - basically the money they make out of betting/gaming, including costs of promos like free bets and BOG, but not the underlying costs of running the business.

EBITDA - earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation - basically the profit they make from what they do, including all the day-to-day costs of running the business, but before all the things listed (which can wildly skew reported profit from year to year).

I think that's a reasonable summary TM, and not just for Entain.
