Strange run. Jock giving out distress signals after a furlong, and by the time he did start moving forward was only ever running for second. Had form on all ground so a complete mystery as to why it couldn't lay up.

Group horses gallop faster than handicappers.

You might ask why they ran it here?

Considering the official ratings it did well to get second.

It did, won off 68 less than two months ago.

Why wouldn't you run it, on the upgrade and ran well to finish 2nd, Dr spot on with why it struggled early doors.

Group horses don't gallop faster than handicappers, or more appropriately horses who have ran in handicaps. Some do, some don't. If it were true all track records would be held by Group horses. If you want a strong early pace you are much more likely to get that in a competitive handicap than a Group race. York on decent ground is a much quicker test than Doncaster on slow. There should have been no reason why the horse was immediately niggled along and the jock didn't sit much closer to the two obvious dangers.

Believe what you like diff.

Having recently won a class2 £52,000 handicap, Nigiri was pushed along at halfway to keep up.

But the important bit of a race is at the end, and there the winner was in a different leaugue.

I take your point though, handicap form can be far more reliable than many condition races where the winner only has to turn up to win.
Like the race here.

So what is the value of the form next time they all run?
