That's why i keep saying you need exchange & bookmakers sparrow
Exchange 2 places 1.31 vs Bookmaker 2 places = 1.625
All depends on how you use the prices and include in what strategy
Good luck today

5/2 at 1/4 odds Freddie , can be part of the best value e/way acca you'll ever have when the day's racecards offer enough races.
Fair enough sparrow each to their own.

Best day ever when we were able to bet place only for whatever we wanted rather than tied to the old Each Way bet at level stakes. Well past its sell by date.

half your stake is a win bet at odds that aren't representative of the horses chances of winning the fkng race ... b'cos they can't give you those due to the place part.
win market place market
want each-way ?? simple, have a bit on both.

Imho hayden you are correct and if I was an on course bookmaker at Musselburgh today, I certainly wouldn't be offering 9/2 that horse, in that market today.

How is it dodging the point, your OP is highlighting the difference between on here and on course sp. In this race there is a perfectly good reason why that is so.

can well understand why these apparent anomalies occur. the 2nd and 3rd in have been clipped by about 20% since the shakedown

dealer, I was talking about punter options not bookmakers.

I'm lost here, although I was out last night for the first time in months and had a few more sherberts than I intended to. My reply to hayden was regards backing each way with the books and his example today. The other was to your comparison in sp's on your opening post and the reasons why , in this case imo it perfectly understandable why there is such a difference
Apologies if I've picked up posts wrongly

I was making a simple point regarding BFSP as opposed to bookmaker SP that was all. But others started talking about place betting by way of the Each Way bet which both I and hulk answered by citing win and place betting. That is our position and its not complicated surely.

whats the bookies problem with sticking up win-only and place-only markets.
anyone comes up to the counter with a £2.50 each-way docket the friendly cashier says we don't do that anymore, it was ripping punters off and our aim is to protect them. i'll put it through as £2.50 win, and £2.50 place for you.
why do they not want to do that ??

Just to clear one important point , i don't give a stuff about other punters only myself , that needs making clear as anything i post would only ever be something that works for MY benefit.
If bookmakers did what you suggest they could have gone 4/1 or 21/5 the winner but they also would have gone 3/10 for the place , so from my point of view that would be a disastrous change , so effectively the 1.625 place value has vanished , currently there are plenty of races that bookmakers love to set win & place individual prices but for me personally that would be a disaster.
Try and digest the above from my personal betting point of view.
You really think the average flutterer is bothered his tenner e/way to be £50 & £13 as opposed to £35 & £16.25 when he knows the extreme likelihood is the horse will finish 2nd and he'll have many many more second places than winners or unplaced with that shape of race.
We're at cross purposes somewhat because you seem to be on a crusade for other punters whereas i'm always talking selfishly which is why i think the fixed place terms are great and should remain.
Sometimes having a conversation on here is akin to chatting in betting shops in the last millennium , mostly my fault for thinking the modern gambler would be multi-dimensional and savvy enough to take all the opportunities that present themselves depending on the racecards we get given , apparently not.
Your suggestion of separating the win & place would probably be a no go anyway as it would be operationally a non starter ( Dealer would have an opinion on that )
Good punting tomorrow

Are not these two points inextricably linked? The reason the bookie Win price is so poor compared to the Exchange Win price is that the bookie price is a Win or EW price, and even at the poor price he is giving on the Win he is giving away value on the Place portion of the EW?

Of course Longbridge because they're virtually compelled to adhere to their rule book place terms.
Punters have a choice , they can either moan about the win deficiency which as you say is easily explained in shaped races , or they can exploit ways to take advantage of 1.625 vs 1.31 , especially as we'd all agree 1.31 is the true odds.
Guess it depends on whether the punter sees the glass as half full or half empty.
Good luck today mate
End of thread ( hopefully )
