Can't recall that game ronnie but that would be Clyde Best and Whitechapel I knew very well but not a place to be at night.

Fractional odds are far easier to understand than decimals, provided you realise they are completely misnamed; they are not fractions at all, they are ratios.

He scored so many jimnast but maybe against Derby in the 1970s.

I'm not bad at mental arithmetic, but surely it is easier to know that if I back a horse for £10 at 1.73 I get £17.30 back than working out £10 times (1 + 8/11) in your head?

Let alone working out if 11/8 is better than 7/5 etc.

Conversely - Looking it at the other angle of Punting - which is primarilaly far more important than just 'how much do you stand to win' ...

Seasoned Punters KNOW instantly the ASSET Value of 11/8 - set against the adjoining odds of 5/4 and 6/4  - Whereas ...

I just had to do a somewhat long-winded Mathematical calculation of  ...

- multiply 8 by 5 = 40 (for 11/8) - and 8 times 5 (for 7/5) ... THEN - 5 times 11 (for 11/8) - and 8 times 7 (for 7/5) - in order to determine whether ...

11/8 (= 55/40) is better or worse than 7/5 (= 56/40) 


I'll stick with 11/10 - 13/8 - 9/4  and 100/30 - Thank you.

We grew up with the fractions and somehow managed but no bookmaker these days will want to lay 100/8 rather than 12/1.
