People seem to lose their sense of perspective. I am certainly unclear of how the “victim” really feels about the President’s display of euphoria.

Maybe she felt under pressure to initially pass it off as unimportant but equally she may have succumbed to the demands of the sisterhood to conform and pile on.

A powerful man is firmly in the sights of the outraged and he is there to be taken down.  He must lose his job and even an apology I sense would not be entertained.

Without doubt there are men who deserve the full wrath of the feminist movement but I do wonder if sometimes they unleash their venom on the wrong targets and in doing so the more serious cases get lost in the mist.

All this is happening in a country where two young girls have been gang raped in the last couple of weeks and surely those victims are more deserving of mass support and powerful statements from the lionesses and other sporting stars.

Unfortunately we're seeing a lot of this stuff here in Ireland now, Asian males being caught feeling up kids on buses and trains, or kids being approached in parks in broad daylight and having to be chased away. Luckily people are recording these instances on phones as the mainstream media aren't reporting them.

Double standards abound these days.
Report dustybin August 29, 2023 10:36 AM BST
I’ll say it before any of the screaming pitchfork wielders do; that is slightly different in that Charles is clearly giving consent.

But the point here that went unmentioned was that the kiss approach wasn’t started by Charles, she was using the situation to take advantage by emotional manipulation.

Ordinarily you can’t even touch the Monarch, let alone lock lips ffs, she’d have probably been dragged over the barricade in ‘normal’ times

But this is partly the point, the woman will attest to the act as non sexual. Just because a person instigates a lip kiss it doesn’t mean it’s sexual violence.

In Rubiales’ defence he clearly showed exuberance in the other actions he made, and where he made the mistake was to overdo his congratulatory response to being picked up by the player.
Report shoodacoodadidnt August 29, 2023 11:14 AM BST
not sure Charles was given opportunity to consent or not - it's definitely a double standard - still the football manager should know the boundaries by now - the only question is degree of punishment - one assumes it's not quite a hanging offence - but one might wonder nowadays

Report dustybin August 29, 2023 12:06 PM BST
The issue with Rubiales which is particularly distasteful is that they are calling the kiss alone sexual violence.
Whether the mood music of his other actions or the tickle tackle surrounding what he may or may not have done are inconsequential to the kiss.

They are purposefully conflating two issues, one which highlights machismo and the perfectly reasonable issue of women not wanting to feel threatened (though this case looks like it’s being stirred up for ideological reason by people who simply want equal pay as the end game) and the other where predatory men rape and kill women.

Whatever happens in this case, he isn’t a predator and no matter what is said or done women will still get raped and murdered because they have always be odious crimes yet still happened anyway.

The world moves on. I am old enough to remember opposition to speed limits on roads and seat belts, restrictions on smoking, unrestricted fox hunting, badger baiting, whip use in horse racing etc. but most have been restricted or banned in UK and you have to adjust. On the other hand we can now buy alcohol or bet on a horse 24 hours a day. Women make up a majority of the human race and they are only now realising that they have a political voice-unless they live in an Islamic country.
Report dustybin August 29, 2023 12:22 PM BST
Not sure how much longer you will have the freedom to bet on anything how you may have wished…which is another example of state interference forcing compliance.

The amusing part of the Rubiales case are the virtue signalling males. Ok plenty will believe there is a case here…but none I have seen have made any gestures of sacrificing their pay.
Professional male football fees and salaries can only come down to meet the raising female pay, it’s unsustainable as it is.

Fox hunting ban affected barely anyone did it? As for seat belts, fewer cars and again was it really impactful (hoho)?

Look today
Forced lockdown
Forced acceptance of gender/gay/trans
Semi forced jabs
Kneeling over racial issues and the judging of those who refuse
Imposed driving area restriction/ and/or type of car you must choose
The larger global warming argument and humanity’s part in it
These developing gambling restrictions
The rising question of meat eating

And they are just over recent years.

That is the change that I am referring to. It has always happened and probably always will leaving those of us over 60 (or less) yearning to turn back the clock but we can't so we must accept the new reality. Covid restrictions were due partly to ignorance of a novel disease and partly to the public demand to remove all risk from our lives. Would you prefer Spanish Flu which was allowed to run its course and killed millions or removing the vote from women? As an ex farmer, I well remember mad cow disease that "experts" confidently predicted would kill many tens of thousands if not millions of people. It didn't but all manner of permanent legal changes were made just in case and remain to this day.
Report Cider August 29, 2023 2:08 PM BST
It's absolutely not the same. This agenda has infected education for twenty years. It has never been the case since modernity (in the English speaking 'west' anyway) that there is only one permitted view, and if you don't confirm, you are an evil, far right conspiracy theorist.

The result is that you know have decision makers who have gone through this conditioning.

At no point, at any point at all, was there any evidence that covid was a legitimate threat to young, healthy people. But young healthy people were manipulating into batting for the fascists ruining their lives. Quite unbelievable, in a 'free' western country. Can you imagine all the pain and suffering people went through to defend those freedoms. And now they are just going to be handed away.
Report dustybin August 29, 2023 2:09 PM BST
Yes, mad cow disease, and foot and mouth to an extent, again lumped in.

To a certain degree natural events get given a green light, but covid was more than that it was the forced transmission of a new medical approach.
What I’m really asking I guess is of all the cultural changes and suspected scientific ones, if they were as important as they suggest how come they all had to be forced on us within 1 generation?
Pretty long odds to say they all became important at the same time.

It strikes me a growing trend, I was never a ‘conspiracist’, but it’s not clear the damage of covid jabs and when I see irrational arguments like those comparing women applauding Rubiales’ statement to be ‘disappointing and akin to those refusing to kneel’ I start to wonder about the whole thing

Report sageform August 29, 2023 2:31 PM BST
But where is woke coming from? I would blame it squarely on social media and pressure groups who manipulate the "old" news outlets. There are still headlines online that air travel will be disrupted for several days while reporters on the ground are reporting that all is just about back to normal already. The problem is that cases involving a single person or a small group are household knowledge within seconds via social media and Sky News so and the authorities (love them or hate them) can never catch up. Black Lives Matter was a perfect example. A single person delayed for 3 days in some obscure airport can inform the world on Facebook but the 2 million travellers whose journey is normal say nothing.

SM is a very valuable tool, which is why there was so much absurd outrage about Musk buying twatter. But it's not the cause.

I don't know the true cause, but there is a lot of truth in the long march theory. There was no mainstream/majority support for this type of agenda in the English speaking west, so they have taken control of the institutions instead, rendering elected politicians pretty toothless. Like I say now, we've had twenty years of kids being told what to think and not how to think. Those kids are now in influential positions.

England defender Lucy Bronze has praised the Spain players involved in the Luis Rubiales case after the former president of the Spanish football federation was found guilty of kissing Jenni Hermoso without her consent.

On Thursday, Rubiales was ordered to pay a fine worth more than 10,000 euros after a Madrid court returned its verdict, with the incident overshadowing Spain’s World Cup final celebrations after victory over England in 2023.
Speaking shortly before the verdict was reached, Bronze, who played with Hermoso and several other members of the Spain team that lifted the World Cup during her time with Barcelona, shared her support for what they had been through.

“I’m good friends with a lot of the players that have been involved in it and, knowing them, it’s been incredible that these players have had to go through that,” Bronze said. “Not just winning the World Cup, but they’re in the court case, they’re speaking out.

“It’s incredibly brave, as individuals and as a team collectively. They’re fighting for change, not just in that court case but in their federation. It’s amazing. As an England team we’ve made changes, not for the same reasons, but we stand by them.

“We want them to get what they deserve and to just enjoy their football as well. I’ve been there and my last year at Barcelona, watching their ordeals after the World Cup, I think it was challenging for them. It would be nice for them to get back to their football and focusing on that because they are incredible people and unbelievable players as well.”
