Pundits 'gets the job done'.. 'got into a good rhythm '. Mapletoft in particular uses these two phrases for practically every winner.

"Here comes Frankie"
"Here comes the Fav"
"That's one for the Judge"
"Settle down to battle it out"

Don't know who says it but "and then came" instead of "and then comes" is just wrong.

Slightly surprised anyone has the audio turned on when watching races on LV to be honest - if it was just the sound of the horses and the crowd I might, but I can pick out colours and saddlecloth numbers all by myself most days :)

Commentators that go on about which horse(s) will “go forward” infuriates me.
In all my years of watching horse racing I’ve yet to see a racehorse run backwards. They all go forward.
Seems to me to be just a fashionable way of saying who’s making, or intending to make, the running.

Yes aladdin and when they say "he likes to go forward" as if it were a personal choice.

That has always infuriated me - as it is so Grammatically Incorrect.


It is yet another Horse Racing phraseology that has come from AUSTRALIA - Where ALL the Commentators say that.

As we know - Australians are all 'Back to Front' ... or 'Upside Down'  - Take your pick.

I know I'm old fashioned but it grates with me when pundits etc use adverbs incorrectly . Or incorrect as they would say.
The horse did not finish strong, or win comfortable, or start slow, or drop back quick. All adverbs end in - LY.
( okay , so QI WILL find a few that don't but thousands do ! ), Speak English !

" The runners are migrating over to the stands side" - a bit of a smart arse term used for the first time around 20 years or so ago. Think it was either Hoiles or Machin who started using it in their commentaries.
