1. Anything suggesting that the Johnston horses are in some way harder to pass than other trainer’s horses. It’s no longer true.
2. ‘One out one back’ ….this means a horse that is either 2nd or maybe 3rd in running - wouldn’t it be easier to just say that.
3. A jockey or a trainer who having had a winner are ‘chasing a double’…how is this in any way worthy of repeated comment?
4. ‘Ticks all the boxes’ … used when when we have run out of things to say. Well find more things to say - that’s why they pay you.
5. ‘Oh wow’…you know who you are! What does this mean, when seemingly nothing dramatic has just happened? It’s patronising!

Pundits 'gets the job done'.. 'got into a good rhythm '. Mapletoft in particular uses these two phrases for practically every winner.

Slightly surprised anyone has the audio turned on when watching races on LV to be honest - if it was just the sound of the horses and the crowd I might, but I can pick out colours and saddlecloth numbers all by myself most days :)

Lol I was thinking about “one out one back” the other day.

So what’s the one directly behind? one out two back? It’s a horse race not fecking Board game.

I noticed this one in Hong Kong last season and I’m hoping it doesn’t catch on here…

Chasing the Breeze.

Apparently this is the opposite of scraping paint.

'All get over that one well/jump that one well' - usually said by jumps commentators after at least two have stumbled or crashed through a fence...

Commentators that go on about which horse(s) will “go forward” infuriates me.
In all my years of watching horse racing I’ve yet to see a racehorse run backwards. They all go forward.
Seems to me to be just a fashionable way of saying who’s making, or intending to make, the running.

Yes aladdin and when they say "he likes to go forward" as if it were a personal choice.

That has always infuriated me - as it is so Grammatically Incorrect. Cry

It is yet another Horse Racing phraseology that has come from AUSTRALIA - Where ALL the Commentators say that.

As we know - Australians are all 'Back to Front' ... or 'Upside Down'  - Take your pick.

"In the gate" is also my pet hate.  This is Britain not the land of lasix.
Closely followed by "and there can only be about ten lengths from front to back", as if that is some consolation to the punter of a backmarker..

I know I'm old fashioned but it grates with me when pundits etc use adverbs incorrectly . Or incorrect as they would say.
The horse did not finish strong, or win comfortable, or start slow, or drop back quick. All adverbs end in - LY.
( okay , so QI WILL find a few that don't but thousands do ! ), Speak English !

" The runners are migrating over to the stands side" - a bit of a smart arse term used for the first time around 20 years or so ago. Think it was either Hoiles or Machin who started using it in their commentaries.
