Today is historicall=y CHESTEWR Highest Attendance day (around 30,000 in years gone by) - even higher than the May meeting.
This being because - It has always been something of a CULT Meeting (and No - that is not a Typo - although, perhaps it ought to be)
- whereby people piles into the infield - queueing up from 6:00am in some instances to get the best spots for their Gazebos and barbecues etc, rather like Cartmel.
CHESTER, however have put a stop to a lot of that by - building a lot of new extensions and facilities on the inside of the Track - So that punters, presumably, can no longer see much of the Home straight from the infield.
They also brought in restrictions on some of the above mentioned, including bringing in your own food and drink.... as they want you to buy their own expensive stuff.
However - The RACING LEAGUE, 'in their wisdom' have decided to Schedule one of their days at nearby HAYDOCK Park - which shares the same Pool of potential, and existing, RACEGOERS from both Merseyside and Manchester - as does CHESTER.
At a time when everybody is fighting for 'The Leisure Pound' ....

I stand corrected - always getting the two mixed up ....
Must be all the anticipation and excitement of working out who is i which regional team - like .... Why was a recent Michael Bell (Newmarket) Runner, and Winner, at Yarmouth, racing for Osbornes 'Wales & the West 'team, or something similar.  |

I've got a 2023 fixture list that I downloaded early this year and none of the Sunday Series meetings were in that list. Which suggests to me that they had to get agreement from ITV as to which Sundays they could be fitted into their schedule, at which point a clash like todays was always possible.

WHY would anyone go to Chester when Haydock is on?

Hard to forgive Haydock for destroying their old, knots in the stomach, steeplechase course,and hard to forgive Chester for selling out to the cult audiences. What I will add is if going for a pre or after race pint Chester wins hands down. With Haydock you have to walk into the uninspiring Ashton In Makerfield, whose claim to fame is producing the NUM President, Joe Gormley.
