Doctor... The forecast I'm seeing is for strong winds and on/off heavy showers today

I'd be surprised if that was enough for it to be called off
The winds and subsequent safety concerns may be more of a threat than the rain

Agreed rain only 4cast until 12, then sunny spells and very strong winds until 5pm. On imo.

The going has slightly quickened overnight ahead of the final day of Glorious Goodwood, but the rain that is due in the next hour is likely to take effect before the start of the first race.

The ground on Saturday morning was said to be good to soft – the final race on Friday was run on ground described as good to soft, soft in places – with the track receiving just 0.4mm of rain.

Speaking after racing on Friday, clerk of the course Ed Arkell said: "Rain is coming, and quite a lot of it by the forecast. I haven't had a proper look since this morning, but fairly heavy rain is expected tomorrow morning and then breaking up into heavier showers with some sun in the afternoon. It's absolutely certain the going will be impacted."

Live a few miles away, and it can be much worse on Goodwood mountain, and apart from being windy it looks OK outside. Winds are due to lessen so can't see much of a problem though the beautiful course turns into hell in poor weather for racegoers.

There is a lot of rain to hit the course tomorrow and while I would usually stay away from 8 yr olds in sprints SPAINISH STAR is just too big at 25/1 tomorrow. Lets have a close look at the geldings GOODWOOD form.

So with the word soft in the description over 6f SPAINISH STAR is unbeaten at Goodwood however before you go running for the wheelbarrow there are some negatives
1. He is running off the highest rating he has ever run off
2. The biggest field he has raced in was 12 runners
3. Trainer is 1 winner from 7 runners last 10 days

However as I said about MAN OF EDEN horses either like this course or they don’t act here and at 25/1 paying 6 places his previous form at the course makes him a 14s/16s chance

at least the winner was 16/1 so not all his winners are backed and even his 125/1 was only beaten 6L

Galway was already wet before this storm arrived.

Yesterday's Met Office forecast was optimistic (and unusually inaccurate). It's raining at Goodwood now and likely to last until at least mid afternoon. Expect going to change to heavy soon. Racing being cancelled is not impossible.

For the geographically challenged: Galway is on the west coast of Ireland, 200+ miles away. There is virtually no rain forecst there so, no it's nothing like the "rest of the country".

Paul Keally seems to have accurately predicted the going.

here is still a yellow weather warning in place for wind and thunderstorms but, speaking just before 9am on Saturday morning, Arkell said: "I've called it good to soft this morning, it dried back during racing yesterday and overnight. We've had 1.4mm of rain and it is now overcast and breezy.

"We haven't got any rain here at the minute, it's dry. I think there will be a little bit more rain but I don't think there's going to be a huge amount. There might be some showers about, but I think we've probably missed the worst of it."

So the heavens have again opened for the final day with 4.6mm since midnight (5am actually on the rain radar) through 11am (Turftrax). Still raining but turftrax still give it GS from 7.20am when they finished their readings. With the extra rain it probably already edged to  GS (soft patches)  and will almost certainly be on the soft side come the first race. If a few heavy showers hit then there is a slight chance of something even softer and it’s only the wind which could threaten the meeting and that should ease off slightly after noon picking up again early evening

All the better for Mr Waygu and Spanish Star

Mr smartass, I'm in Dublin. So yeah, rest of the Country. And its STILL raining.

There is clearly nothing at all to worry about. The CoC, having been trained by Seamus "Hosepipe" Buckley, has just told us that it is Soft/Good to Soft in places. I am sure that we all trust him implicitly.
