The beginning of the end game of the total and irreversible destruction of our once great capital city.
And will be replicated across Britain. |
By:
Yep, expect other big cities will follow, don't drive much these days so my old diesel is on the drive most of time and does about 2,500 miles a year now i'm retired, if it comes to Birmingham soon i'll probably get rid and use my bus pass, thus taking £5/600 a year Insurance, £200 rd tax, £50 MOT, say another £200 a year maintenance and Petrol and RAC costs out of the economy and that's just me.

Khan has caused untold misery and chaos on the roads near me and now this draconian charge on top is absolutely abhorrent.

Crime, shoplifting and anti-social behaviour has increased by over a third in Co-op shops in the past year.
The company has revealed that almost 1,000 incidents occurred every day in shops in the first six months of 2023, a total of more than 175,000. One shop in inner London was "looted" three times in a single day. It's already a third world hell hole, now he is expanding it to the M25. |

Anyone here ever experienced air pollution such as the great smog of London 1952? A few less cars on the road then as well
....How many cars were there in the UK in 1952? Seventy years ago, there were 2,521,000 cars on the road, compared with 35 million at the end of 2021. |
By:
I'm not worried Dave, as i said probably only drive 2 or 3 times a week and do very few miles and it's not a kn@cker either, doubt much pollution coming from me. What about all the small tradesmen driving diesel vans and trucks.

Cleaner air less traffic

Not many coal fires in London now, sparrow, not after they caused the great smog in 1952. The Clean Air Act 1956 was the ULEZ of its day.

ppl should focus their efforts on the non-electric sales ban in 2030, when eletric tech is nowhere near ready.

You fail to mention the 32.5 million extra cars, ramruma.
By:
And 20 million more people

For interest, I put my 11 year old car registration in on a checking site and my car wouldn't have to pay not that I'm taking my car anywhere near London anytime soon.
By:
A friend of mine in London has a 15 year old car which is also exempt from the charge.
By:
Once cash is gone there will be no option not to pay......dangerous, scary times ahead

Being able to drive and having a car give one independence and convenience. For instance, no waiting at the bus stops in the winter when it could be freezing. Also, able to buy and carry more meaning fewer trips into town for shopping saving loads of time weekly.
Mr Khan is an attention seeker and totally out-of-touch with reality and present struggles of people with the cost of living. The bloke is a political liability and an anal-passage; ulez is a good policy but not when most are struggling to get by presently. |
By:
The pr1ck is supposed to be in favour of female safety.
I suspect people who don't know it well have no concept of what it's like in parts of the outskirts of London. To believe that you you could rely on public transport is laughable. |
By:
Female safety? He was conspicuously quiet kept when his fellow countrymen used and sexually abused young white female up north. The bloke has let power take away his ability to judge and evaluate a policy accordingly.

15 year old cars allowed without payment and the usual forum loons screaming and bawling about their normal gripes.

If the additional daily travelling tax isn't going to hit relatively poor working people, why roll it out? The cameras alone cost £60 million I believe.

Classic cars are exempt eg 40yrs+. Is that equitable? Classic cars are one of the worst polluters.

By:
Boris Johnson was the person who introduced the first ULEZ zone in London.
By:
It's appropriate enough for the actual centre.
By:
If Khan had introduced it to the centre you would not be saying that
By:
Yes I would. It's all about rationality isn't it, it's completely rational to discourage traffic where you can hop in a bus to go anywhere in a bus, fully built up and practically can't be anywhere without a tube station within sight, and effectively the countryside. The expansion is about punishment and raking in revenue.

Don't expect it to stay at £12.50 for too long - next stop £15.00 and then onwards and upwards

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, today (Thursday 26 March) confirmed the introduction of the world’s first Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), and welcomed an increased fund of £65 million to help support London taxi drivers’ transition to zero emission capable taxis.
Following a positive consultation process, the Ultra Low Emission Zone will launch in central London on 7 September 2020, significantly improving air quality and helping to protect the health of Londoners. It will require vehicles travelling in the Congestion Charge Zone of central London to meet new emission standards 24 hours a day, seven days a week or pay a daily charge. |
