Is the same person as Mathew Smith who was an amateur jockey in England between 2000 and 2012, don't think he is but did start training in 2012 in Ireland.
Funny what you find when doing a bit of research, because the amateur jockey in England rode a horse for K Burke in 2006 named Sarahs Quay that won at 100/1, that trainer was based in Bourton on the Water in the cotswalds and seem to remember he lost his stables, possibly bankrupt but resurfaced in Sweden as Kahlil De Burka and last runners were in Meydan in March 2022.
Amonst the horses he trained there were Archduke Ferdinand and Epsom 2020 Derby 3rd Amhran Na Bhfiann. Seems to have disappeared again since.

Sarahs Quay was trained by W J Burke, and ridden by Mr Mathew Smith (7) on Feb 2006.

The trainer was then known as Kahlil Burke or the Irish spelling of the 1st name can't recall but he is the same trainer.

Why the original question .... out of curiosity - stewarts?

I was looking at a couple of his runners tonight, one of which is presumably his son James Smith on No Thanks and just seemed coincidental that the Mathew Smith jockey stopped riding just before Mathew J Smith the trainer started up in Ireland and was relatively young when doing so.

I remember Kahlil Burke quite well Onlooker as he was the trainer of the horse Sarahs Quay in 2006 which after being ridden to win for Mathew Smith at 100/1, then won at Newcastle at 14/1 and i actually put a thread up for the Newcastle race tipping it up, recall got about 26/28 on here, he was relatively unknown then. As you say you start looking for something and it leads you to who knows where, Kahlil De Burka indeed!Grin After looking back at SQ form on RP it she became a rogue refusing to race and that was that, but now notice that she's been a broodmare and produced Kings Palace an Alfred Bartlett winner for David Pipe at Cheltenham, has a couple of others which look interesting including Tip Top Tonto engaged at Worcester on Thursday, would expect both of the horses still running to be better over chases like the mother.

Warned Off, and goodness knows what else ...

Morphed into - Kahlil da Burca Happy  - and reappears 11 years later in Sweden.

Good job he did not name himself - de Burka ....

- people may have thought he was trying to hide his face  Grin

I know there was a thread about him on here, someone came on saying he was owed a lot of money by him. Hadn't read anything about him till found he had been training in Sweden since 2019, don't follow Swedish racing.Grin

Another of MJS horses could have a chance in the 5.08 Blackcastle Storm, but it is his debut over hurdles but has decent flat form over 1m1-1m2fs particularly when beating Yokkell at Down Royal. Have a look at the 2nd,3rd and 4th horses since, the 3rd and 4th currently rated 130 and 116 over hurdles, 2nd won again yesterday on flat rated 70, interesting but wouldn't want it soft i'd imagine.

Anyone who is jumping on at 30 and under, it's still 33/1 with 356.

Quickly changed to 20/1 lol.

PU. Hope his last horse runs a lot better than that one.
