Curragh Inspection

I live around 40km from the track and it lashed down for the majority of last evening and is still drizzling down now.

Redcar inspect 8am.

Curragh is OFF according to their twitter page

ELG, since MJK's post, quantifying distance in KM, it did cross my mind if Ireland had shifted over to metric since I was last over. And if so, why is horse racing still imperial.

Probably not to complicate things with them having a significant UK audience?

If so, would be a relief to know that the Irish still like to keep the English happy over one or two matters :)

Bit of a joke that the curragh doesn't have drainage in place since, and I quote from the oireachtas the "biggest capital project undertaken to date in Irish racing"


Maybe instead of building a whistling stand, they could have put in drainage and a straight mile course

^ Honestly can't remember seeing as much rain falling as hard as it has last couple of weeks, and that's in a Country known for our fair share of rain. Find it hard to blame the abandonment on lack of drainage.

I havn't been racing to the Curragh in over 20 years.... I don't particularly like the place preferring Naas, Fairyhouse, and to a lesser extent Gowran to go and watch racing.


I find it absolutely amazing that our premier racecourse, that has undergone a near 100 million refurbishment, has left itself in a position that they have a waterlogged track!!

As it happens Gowran is my favourite course in Ireland but I think the curragh is now a world class racecourse.

Tracks get waterlogged as do other sporting venues if there’s to much rain

perfectly understandable that tracks that havn't had 100 million pumped into them might get waterlogged....

Typically Irish effort at pretending its a good track because we spent a shedload of money on it.

How often are Grand Prix waterlogged baring in mind the money involved in that incredibly boring sport

You do some moaning about the sport in your country you have many great racecourses,the best national hunt racing in the world and it’s so cheap to go racing over there yet most days the attendance is poor.

We'll agree to disagee on the Curragh.

I'm not moaning.... I think if we marketed ourselves better, or jazzed it up a bit, our Derby could be one of the best.
That's certainly within Curragh management scope.

You would think all in Ireland, would, by now, have learned to deal with rain, but not this throwback lot to the lot we unceremoniously ejected from England many centuries ago.

My father always told me, back in the cold days of winter, that Ireland was the loo outside the sophisticated comforts of the English.

Mind you, Ireland does have it share of fair lasses bandying love around, of which, I must admit, when in the old towers of the hall, I did let temptation slip hehehe!

I’ve only been to one Irish derby which was the first Sunday derby back in 1988 at the old curragh which I didn’t like at all and never went back,only when the new curragh was opened I decided I would go again to tick it of the list ,absolutely loved the place and go when I can,due to fixtures over here I’ve not been able to go to the derby but hopefully will be able to in the future as you say we will agree to disagree,
