Aye, I assume they'll be using the heatwave at the other side of the gulf stream to terrify
the public on the news?
Report onlooker July 22, 2023 10:26 AM BST
I wouldn't mind some Global Warming and Heatwave, here. Cry

Not entirely sold on all this 'Save the Planet' propaganda.

Hi jimnast, was in seville for a week which is one of my favourite european cities then went to meet the other half in santorini.thats quite expensive but a beautiful place.the temperatures out there at the moment though about 10deg above my comfort zone these days

Some of your weather ( predictions ) seem out of touch with the LIVE " Opening Show " .  A fair few owners are hoping it rain.
Report sparrow July 22, 2023 11:05 AM BST
Yes we all remember 40+ centigrade temperatures every summer Laugh
Report BULLET TOOTH TONY July 22, 2023 11:10 AM BST
This time last year wasn’t it week 8 of no rain and 40 degree heat!!

We’ve just about had a month this time around with limited amount of rain!! Of course school holidays have started so instant rain is on the cards for every parent to go “what the **** we going to do with the kids now”
Report sageform July 22, 2023 11:11 AM BST
There will still be the same number of race winners barring dead heats and the Golf will almost certainly continue on schedule.

Good morning barrowboy

Never been to either the landlord of my local speaks very highly of Seville, santorini is a place my wife keeps suggesting most European cities are expensive now but we know that before we go,the week after royal ascot we went to Stockholm which whilst expensive nowhere near as bad as legend has it ,and what a class place.
Report sageform July 22, 2023 11:48 AM BST
Not all farmers Reg, particularly around here! Wheat harvest only just under way and some second cuts of grass will be waterlogged if this goes on all day. Maize and potatoes will be loving it though. I am trying to resist the temptation to back too many horses until the last minute.
Report BARROWBOY July 22, 2023 11:49 AM BST
Not a problem,any fancies today?

----------------

My 'predictions' - are based on an observation of the Met Office (LIVE) Rainfall Radar facility (past, present, and future - if you know how to use it properly) -

- as opposed to some wallahs on an Early-morning TV show - who are probably more pre-occupied with their appearance and presentation, than Punting.

My 'Tenner' is still on the Met Office.

Stockholm gets a bad rep for gang violence according to press reports, jimnast, but I guess you’d give London a miss for the same reasons!would definitely recommend Seville or Granada for a few days.santorini I would go back but only in may or sept/oct

Rain is part of the global warming effect, just to remind a few above - it's not all about getting hot weather and the sub tan lotion out Grin

What is the difference between 'global warming' rain and normal 'rain' ?

Is the Manchester rain 'global warming' rain or normal 'rain' ?

I hear it has always been pretty wet in the Manchester region.
Report jimnast July 22, 2023 12:24 PM BST
That does surprise me barrowboy about gang violence although it was Monday till Friday morning I was there so never saw a weekend but everything I did was good no negatives at all.

Thanks for the recommendations travel is so important to me now.

Good luck on a very wet day if you get involved.

Cider

I’ve lived here for 62 years I don’t really notice it wetter than anywhere else, regarding cricket Sydney lose more days through rain than old Trafford
Report sageform July 22, 2023 12:31 PM BST
I have also been around a long time and in my present house for 23 years. There is no doubt in my mind that rain is more intense now-much more like the tropics. My first 17 years here my gravel drive stayed intact. In the last 5 years it has been partly washed away 3 times.

Does anyone else have the problem of RTV cutting out whenever it rains.
Report Cider July 22, 2023 12:54 PM BST
I was actually being a bit mischievous so thought I'd look it up. Figures since 1991.

Manchester average 156 days of precipitation, annually 868 mm.

Greenwich average 106 days of precipitation, annually 563 mm.

(Annual precipitation averages for the entire UK are 159 days of rain or snow, totalling 1163 millimetres).

Sky cuts out in heavy rain but RUK seems to go before other channels. Weaker signal presumably.

OK sage, I just always hear farmers saying they need rain

My mobile signal drops in and out regularly when I'm on the levels, don't know if that's connected to your TV signal

BTW, do those new enormous pylons pass near you?

BBC Sport at Old Trafford

15:00

Old Trafford is just a very deflated place as the rain continues to fall. The spectators are drifting away, piling onto the tram behind the media centre. There are long faces in the press box.

It wasn’t supposed to end like this.
