Absolutely useless, should have retired for good long ago, pathetic to watch these days.

Hayley is a professional. She can easily hold her own amongst the present rank of jockeys, and deliver. I'd back her mount in any Group race if the horse's form permits.

I'm with you impossible.  A perfectly competent jockey.

yiu need to back her on horses around the 10/1, 12/1 mark and bigger, she does well on outsiders

She is an excellent jockey. That ride only goes to prove what we all know already - good jockeys know how to obey instruction without attracting TOO much attention

Imo there has never, ever been a jockey who ever lived, that could get a horse who wasn;t good enough to win, to win and get over the line in front.  There have been thousands though who cost horses races through not being good enough themselves.  Indeed, I would venture that every jockey that ever lived has lost races their horse should have won.
That's not to say that Lester Piggott, Frankie Dettori, Sir Gordon Richards, AP McCoy etc; weren't crucial to the success of the horses they rode but would they have got the runner up or the placed horses home?
All we can ask for is that jockeys ride competently, frequently and regularly, and keep mistakes to a minimum.  Or, in the case of Hornby, not repeatedly making the same mistakes and thus not giving their mount the chance to win.
Just my opinion and for me little Hayley is good enough.
Report ProSniper July 20, 2023 11:58 AM BST
They're all good enough, good enough to be pathetic on any given ride. The suggestion that all pathetic, rank-rotten efforts is down to "instructions" is unlikely to be as true as many apologists will have you believe.

Every day we see it.  A jockey doesn;t get his/her horse into a good spot early on and the horse is beat.  It is astonishing how much influence the start has on the outcome of a race. Or a jockey makes the wrong decision to go up the inside and gets snipped off and gets his/her horse beat.  Or a jockey keeps his/her mount on the inner and seemingly in good position but finds at the crucial stage there is no way out. And many other examples.
Which is why, for instance, I like Hollie Doyle so much.  I doubt there is a horse she rides that is in any way put out by having her as its jockey on its back.  Her poise and balance and calmness are outstanding and she almost always gives her horse the chance to win by avoiding trouble and skirmishes and giving it a good position.  Yes, like them all she rides many more losers than winners,  but rarely does she ride a bad race.
Report ProSniper July 20, 2023 12:16 PM BST
There's a difference between being beat by a poor start and using 1 as free excuse for miserable effort.
Report LoyalHoncho July 20, 2023 3:32 PM BST
Agreed.  Did I suggest otherwise.
Frannie Norton, 5 horser. Ham 3.25 - hugely experienced jock, in a great posi, allows himself to be boxed in at a vital stage, loses by half a length.  Did it cost his mount, trainer and owners the race?  You be the judge.
Report ProSniper July 20, 2023 4:08 PM BST
Each ride should be judged on what was delivered. Suggesting any jockey should be held accountable for how a race unfolds is in no way reasonable. Not "allowing" but rather being held at the mercy of how it goes(after positioning to advantage in earlier phase..) is much different to sitting like a motionless dummy, choosing not to make any attempt to cover/negate any earlier disadvantage(draw, slow break) when there is at least open opportunity to do so.
Report wroughtironronn July 20, 2023 4:18 PM BST
She hasn't performed to her previous standards since trying to come back from retirement. Much better and younger jockeys (male and female) giving horses good rides these days.
Report FELTFAIR July 20, 2023 4:47 PM BST
Perfectly capable.

Herself and Hollie Doyle both excellent jockeys.
Report impossible123 July 20, 2023 6:59 PM BST
Yay, yay. Both are grounded and genuine.

Difference between Hayley and Hollie? One wants it badly the other appears to be indifferent imo
