A man who eats baked beans straight out of the can is OK by me. Very loyal to his jockeys, he never says anything nice about them and they never say anything about him. Once said things cannot be unsaid. A good lesson in life.

MJK 18 Jul 23 10:52 A cheating scumbag. Simple as.
I recall a TV interview with Henry Cecil by Chapman where Henry had said that any trainer knowingly running a horse over the wrong trip was cheating in his opinion.

WALOFS calling him a cheat, does he have his horses pulled, doped or anything contrary to the rules of racing? His approach is perfectly sensible in teaching young horses to race with a view to the future, most punters know how he operates as do the authorities, only disgruntled punters living on another planet would be unaware!!

So going by your assertions stu and sparrow, every trainer who runs a 2 year old over 5 or 6 F that then goes on to run in middle distance races is a cheat? To be a cheat there has to be some deception so would you care to espouse who Prescott is deceiving and why the majority of trainers are any different?

Get's his horses a workable H'cap mark, like most trainers try to do. Is it any worse than trainers running a horse over 6F 3x & not being sighted then winning over the same trip after being hammered in the betting?

All started a while back Cagliari.I mentioned his pastime/hobbies
I’ve never had much time for people who refer to a person by the surname, especially an employee
Regarding his training ability I can’t say I’ve given it much thought,I remember a few having an @rgasm when Pasternak landed a so called fortune….this kind of thing is almost an occurrence daily/weekly/monthly in the game…

Henry's statement was too wide in scope sparrow because it would include any trainer running a horse over sprint distances knowing that its future was over maybe 10 or 12 just as an example,so you could include Henry himself or the likes of AOB?

Top man is Sir Mark. He trains horses to race, the reason they were bred.
There is no rule in racing that you must can not run staying bred horses in sprints, or sprint bred horses in staying races. That might be confusing to people whose form study is counting the 1s before the horse's name.
I have fond memories of Sir Mark's grey filly On Call winning at Leopardstown in 1998 at 8/1. The race was 1m 6f, and On Call had won 6 of her 7 previous races, all at 1m 4f, 1m 6f, 2m. It was a Listed race, and On Call was there to get her first black type. The odds-on favourite was an Irish Oaks winner, returning after a long break, and so fat she looked like she was 10 months pregnant.

Would you call trainers who run PTP winners over 3 miles cheats for running in 2 mile hurdles or bumper horses who run over 1.5 miles then go up to 2.5 + on hurdling debut?

His hobbies have nothing to do with his training abilities Quixall, would you say the same about Mick Appleby? His hobbies turn my stomach but don't get in the way of backing his horses which is all it comes down to, prejudice can cost you dearly if you let it get in the way of a bet imvho?

So you are saying that he didn't know he was running the horses over too short a trip compared to the future sparrow?
If that is true then what does it suggest,he was guessing IYO?

Had a search Quixall and assume you mean the Sociopath thread? If so ,simply the preponderance of porkie pies going back years and continuing to the present.Claimed to have blocked me when he got fed up being caught so that he did not have to respond, however like steB could not resist reacting to subtle baiting.
Typical sociopathic behaviour btw, when confronted they try to deflect and turn the tables and always fail, many years of experience investigating and locking up similar but Ikeaman will refer to me as a sapper or squaddie because he knows he is a con man and will not dare engage to refute my assertions of his lies. HTH

TBF it is a serious business Quixall though I have always tried a bit of humour along the way but have never tried to put anybody away or just for smartie points or adulation.Ikeaman must be the losing most poster next to StewB and yet has to tell the forum what he had for breakfast among other bollox to cover the fact, all of it proven porkies.

I didn't actually use the word 'cheat' - I was just laughing at some of the eulogising this guy somehow receives from some in the sport/ or even on here oddly. So much sycophantic talk about trainers around in this murky sport - I'm realistic, I know it's often a murky art training, but equally don't give a steaming one about them as people or professionals. I have a similar view of jockeys, with same above issues.
He wouldn't be my least favourite trainer, though that's not exactly saying much given what I think of most racing trainers!

That is the whole issue normally stu but all within the rules and any punter who cries about it obviously does so because they fail to understand and fail to capitalise where the obvious is smacking them in the hooter?
Just imagine if he had trained Red Rum,that would have been a story worth talking about?

Fair enough stu,I am not one of them. But HRA is an example of someone who is subject to hero worship by sparrow et al despite his flaws, how do you distinguish?
My mum baby sat for Henry and David and would hear no wrong and when "her" horse went to Henry she thought it was the best thing since having me in her life!!!
I often wonder how she found so many flaws in me that she would never see in HRA!!

Comparing O'Brien bringing a horse back to sprinting who he was hoping would stay a mile but didn't and what Prescott does is total nonsense. Nonsense post of the month actually.

Tinkers get their knickers in a twist badly over Sir Mark
ultimately if you are a knight of the realm rather than a two-bit kitchen seller you can do what the fúck you like

At the risk of introducing Ace-like irrelevancies, he is not a Knight of the Realm, he is not even a Knight, he is a Baronet (inherited). Still entitled to use Sir but not a Knight.

The baronetcy is from his Grandfather, who was created a Baronet in 1938
Upon his grandfather's death - the baronetcy passed to his son - who must have not had any son's himself to pass it onto - - so the baronetcy passed onto his nephew Mark Prescott in 1965.
Who the baronetcy will be passed onto when Sir Mark Prescott dies is an unknow - But Sir Mark, too, has no Son's - and whether he has any extended family - for another 'sideways' move does not appear to be widely known.
In that case - maybe it will die with him. ...
- or - he could always leave it in his will to - George Duffield....
'for services rendered'.

On the subject of running horses with a plan to begin their handicapping career on a lenient rating as possible, it only feels like yesterday that you could go as long as a month running off penalties - it was in fact around 1990 when they updated the system. I can't recall ever seeing any comparative stats reg sequences being ran up before and after the change in the system. Whatever, handicaps were far more interesting when the OR's were updated monthly, and though not directly related, they were also far more fascinating with a good spread in the weight range. Duffield could do light weights, and Sir Mark also used two other light weights in the mid - late 70's, in Ray Still and Colin Nutter.

No matter how you look at it, he ran (and still runs) his horses in a way that an "armchair" punter (the majority) had little chance of getting right - which suits the high-street bookmakers VERY well. More robbing the less-well-off to benefit the rich (corporations and Prescott and cronies). Too harsh? Too true. Yes, and I'm quite pro measures to keep the levels of those kinds of losses down for those who really can't afford it.
