York Magnet Cup day. Three bus loads from a working mens club, first beers served up at 7:30 on the 5 minute drive from the club to the M1. Bedtime won the Magnet Cup with Carson doing something like 7-10 and went on to be a Group winner the following year but only 7 runners in the race. My first on course winner was Fleet Bay in the last, I think Eddie Hide rode it.

Just dug out the racecard. Actually 9 runners, Gay Lemur second and Miramar Reef a future winner iof the race.
May have been there that day, used to have a minibus full of about 16 of us same day every year then on to Blackpool for a boozy weekend, was always the mens wimbledon final on the radio back then on the Saturday, happy days.
