I have been following this outfit for many years, partly because the colours are easy to spot but more importantly because of their success rate. Coverdale is the latest in a long line of useful handicappers trained by James and now Edward Bethell and they have had at least one winner in every season since 2005. Their peak success was in 2014 with 12 wins from 55 runs. The best horses of recent years were Fearby rated (RPR) 105, Hesslewood 95, Yorkshire 93 and Exminster 88. Coverdale has a best of 90 before today and that might be raised again although he only won narrowly. He could turn out to be their best yet. By mainly racing on northern tracks they seem to resist the temptation to over face their horses. They are all bought at public auction, Coverdale for just 22,000 Fearby for 21,000, Hesslewood for 33,000 and the big priced Yorkshire for 100,000. They have yet to run a 2yo this season so I await it with interest.
