Ascot rain

10 miles away very heavy rain for at least the last hour.

Anything on RP site? Just had a quick gander nothing there as far as I can see.

1 mm of rain overnight, raining now, possibly 2-6mm this morning, going good, good to firm on round course, good to firm on straight course.

Thanks…so one of those Ascots where they come home like a 3 miler at Ffos Lass.

thanks guys i put up a similar post ,didnt realise elg had put one up . pishing down in south london atm. and looking at my sophisticated state of the art rainfall  table measure ........" an empty soup can placed on the ground in my garden " we have had about 3/4 s of an inch overnight .

well lets be honest most of our best races meetings are run on good or softer these days,

Forecast to rain for about an hour and then stop.

Just had 7mm in a downpour from 7 oclock .10mm in total overnight  Good to firm out the window.

Stickels says needs to soak in and will revise going @ mi day.

Ascot has been hit by heavy rain before the first day of the royal meeting, with nearly 10mm falling in the early hours at the track.

Around 9.6mm of rain at the Berkshire course has been recorded since midnight, but the going is still described as good to firm on the straight course and good, good to firm in places on the round track.

was at the south coast last week and it had been hot and  dry all week till saturday night around midnight when it pished down for around 3 hours ,was expecting the local car boot sale to be cancelled but it went ahead and to be honest by 7 in the morning you wouldnt have known it had rained .i suppose with no rain for weeks the ground/turf  is like a sponge and can  absorb the rain  unless it is continuos for hours on end .ascot would have been watering shirley so there should be a bit of give after the rain we have had this morning should be  good ground all round but thats just my opinion.

rai stopped in my part of  south london about 30 mins ago and clear blue skys now.

Ground was road like, they will kick up the surface, but the ground will still be good. No need looking for mud larks

Foyles is right about London rain & Ascot though. Unpredictable.

I remember when Falbrav won the QE2…the night before I was at Highbury watching Arsenal beat Newcastle (Vieira making mince of Jermaine Jenas for 90 minutes) and it poured down like the world was going to end.

Turned our Ascot didn’t get 1 drop of it.

It was a brick road for Falbrav to strut his stuff the next day.

I think it’s a better guide for Windsor…more often than not they get hit whenever I get it. So pretty handy because I can start looking for soft ground horses with a nice draw for the far side rail.

its starting to get a bit grey in the sky in south east  london again and it looks as tho another spell of rain could be a coming wether it reaches ascot is another matter tho!

Racing Post talks about a 'deluge'? Is there a bit of industry scaremongering going on to induce punters to waste their money backing soft ground horses?

Racing Post says 10mm this morning. No word on subsequent rain or weather.

as said earlier after a dry 2 or 3 weeks 3 or 4 hours of rain just goes into the ground like a sponge on normal turf /gardens meadows etc but racecourses like ascot will water they dont want firm ground so ensure some ease by watering every now and then  with the rain we had this morningid say the description wont change much but i wouldnt be paying too much attention to  soft ground specialists unless we get a deluge bit that seems unlikely according to forcasts. .

Isn't the far side the low numbers on the straight course at Ascot - the higher number being the faster going

Sorry I meant - the higher stick number i.e. 7.5 being the faster going on the far side which will be the low numbers - or maybe I just got out of the wrong side of bed and put my stupid head on.

So are we saying going stick suggests far side(lower numbers) better ground yet COC says high  which is stands side???

On the face of it with the going stick numbers that seems to be the case, which is why I was asking for clarification here. I'm very capable of making silly mistakes and I was making sure I wasn't making one here

With these going stick readings I would think far side (low numbers) would have an advantage.
