Sometimes, threads such as those two are more interesting than some of the horse racing ones.

Forums generally are dying , it's all social media these days.

Some are addicts. Social media is not enough to satisfy the non-punting trolls.

A thread like that would previously have gone in Chit Chat but Betfair in their wisdom closed it down ,so general discussions about non sporting matters appear in horse racing ,football or politics .

Surely this is the Social Media.  Its online chat after all is said and done.

Most people are not making money anymore. That's the real reason.

The forum is slowly dying as no one is prepared to put their opinions up any more, the trolls are waiting in the backround for them to fail and then jump on them.

No one has a problem with people putting up an opinion imo, fact is that not enough people have an opinion to discuss.
The dopes like Gaze and their aftertiming nonsense turn people off imo.
As said though forums are dying generally.

It's become a vicious circle in that people can't be arsed going to the trouble of composing
a decent thread topic for it to get zero response...even struggling for views!
Others then can't be arsed responding due to the relentless béllendry from juveniles who know
fcuk all about racing, preferring to insult and ultimately deterring the proper enthusiasts.

The forum was set up primarily for all matters racing before the stampede of gobshítes took
over - I suspect the tipping point was reached way before chit-chat got the boot. Someone once
said that Bumfair couldn't give a shít about it, as it was more trouble than it was worth with
possible litigation issues...especially during the Coronaballs scamdemic. I think he nailed that!

The game is dying. It's no longer considered recreational or hobby by the eyes of bookies. Also, most of the stuff posted here could be used against the poster eg knowledge/success/etc, by bookies who are likely to share the info eg here/sportsbook/paddie. There's little to be gained except trolled and/or possibly had bets restricted or accounts closed; traders of bookies ply their trades here.

It's a shame the above have descended here otherwise a good place to exchange betting opinions and info. Also, it was a bit of a social thing too.

upon that with a random google search for something else and I saw a humorous post

On the greyhound forum there's about ten or twelve of us oldtimers left, living on our memories really of a sport that used to be all consuming. Say around the Westmead Hawk era, 2005, the Derby threads would literally have thousands of replies, now it's tumbleweeds pretty much.

Greeny, I'm someone who accepts expiration and change. Having no unrealistic expectation or reliance on something that is living today is powerful adaptability skills that serves well for whatever future.   

If U have "need" or have great desire for "continuity", "revival" or "change" in whatever area, instead of moaning like a whiney bitch about the "good ol' glory days", how about U focus on contributing something that may elicit some of that?

add that the amount of funsters who think it's rather humorous to talk in code and keep
us guessing wtf they mean has now become the majority it seems - it's as boring as fcuk!

The pathetic '14/1 St James Palace' thread exemplifies this in spades and it's sadly the
norm every time I bother to read a few threads - I'm embarrassed for you children...and
I'm so relieved I'm not tangled up with you lot for a pint

I'll check again in another three months to most likely see the same contagion infecting
this forum intent on its demise...and even fewer relevant threads, posts or just views

Could it be because too many participants want the Forum to be a reliable tipping service? I see it is a vehicle for exchange of ideas, memories from the past and yes, occasionally tips but after 23 years on the Forum I have absolutely no expectation of some magician posting a series of hot inside information to make us all rich. My racing experience started at age 2 when I would confidently tell my Grandfather which horse would win a point to point, continued through my teens by reading John Lawrence (later Lord Oaksey) in the paper as he vividly described the big races for those who didn't see them on TV. As a student from 1962-1966 I soon found others with a strong racing interest and went racing at weekends when we could afford to. At no time in my 60 years as a racing fan and punter have I ever thought that I could lean on anyone else for information on what to back. Yes of course I have had good info that has led to a winner (from owners, trainers, stewards but hardly ever jockeys) but I have never asked for it.

Yeah and even if someone has profitable tips on here, they will be bullied off shortly after a losing run of 4.

Rather naive to expect a gambling forum full of strangers to suddenly offer the golden goose when we all know approx 98% of punters lose money long term , add that to the fact that so few Betfair customers ever have or ever will use the forum , last figures i saw were 3 in every 1000 have utilised the forum.

Whatever we consider sharp minds to be i'm afraid a public gambling forum will always be just an online betting shop , even any long term successful posters on here would hardly be recognised as their advice would be scattered across hundreds of different threads over several years , Rico would be the only poster that we could all agree fits into that category as his posted p/l i know to be the real deal.

So the digression from i fancy this and that are a welcome distraction sometimes and contrary to some opinion i'd say is an attraction rather than driving too many away , for me the dwindling numbers are far more to do with the sport of kings fall in popularity.
