Liverpool have made as much money in the past 5-6yrs as anybody in the world but balance the books and apart from Arsenal this year are the only team to rival City. Winning the league and getting beat twice by a point and also winning the European cup and FA cup has been a great spell but we didn't perk up the mid-field and kept players who are past their best and don't score goals.
I said it on the football forum and still maintain it, just one goal scoring midfielder would of secured at least another league and even 4th place this season.

Unless there is a Barney Curley coup going on it doesn't look like  the Dr Richard Newland owned and trained 10yr old Shar Whats Therush will gain his second win today. Since his success five years ago he has steadily climbed the handicap and is still 13lbs above that November 2017 win and has been off for 431 days.

In racing you have to have the confidence in your own ability to mostly back winners or lay horses who you think won't win who are Bigger or lower in the betting that you think they should be. Horses make fools of us but as BULLET TOOTH TONY said if you think one should be Bigger you have to trust your own opinion.

I am going to do a few to Half Stake Lays now and again, not just because they are 10/1 or Bigger but because I think they won't win.

The 5yr old Old Port is a Winner of six races from 1m 1f to 1m 4f on Good to Firm ground once and on the AW five times. Again one of those who has never won fresh and it is 220 days since he last ran in November. Runs tonight in this Cork Derby Premier Handicap but has never won above Class 3 level in the UK and makes debut for new stable 6lbs above his turf mark.

Old Port was always towards rear and no extra beaten 9 lengths..

Chester 2-10 Vespasian  6.2   1pt lay

The 4yr old bay has been successful at 6f and 7f on the AW with the latest win in February 2022 off 5lbs lower . Seemed to be weakening on this type of ground at Windsor in May and might have to wait for some rain and Softer conditions to be successful again.

The 6yr old Battle Of Mirbat who is owned and trained by  Michael J McDonagh got a big hike of 12lbs for winning at Leopardstown in March over an extended 2m5f, didn't seem to stay at a near 3m2f 26 days ago when beaten 23 lengths and runs over that same distance today still a stone above only win.

Good thread and Good Luck. There are quite a few layers who are trying to Get River Tiber 15:05 Royal Ascot Beat! They IMO will be in for a rude awakening as this horse steps up a Furlong to 6F.

River Tiber is an easy lay, mugbackers.

Only two 8yr old have won this race since 1988 and even though AHWNH has won over 2m4f in a Cheltenham listed event I didn't think the mare fully got the Cesarewitch Handicap 2m2f at Flat racing speed.

Today she has another 10lbs and another near two furlongs so it will be very interesting watching without a bet.

A touch down all in but this is only for small stakes and for fun, the last five favourites on here have all lost.

Do you have a lot of experience laying favs or are you just dabbling? One has to lay at least 1000 favs to crack it imo. There's a fine line between an overbet fav and a steaming cert. You might think that a horse with a form of 0867 steaming from 8 to 3.5 is poor value and then he bolts up of course.

There is no point in analysing form figures to gain an edge Graze.

The market nails that aspect as they’re often misleading.

11yr old who has won nine races all told from 5f to 6f, successful on the turf four times on GF and GS and on the AW five times. Back to form a week ago when beaten a nose by Josies Kid when second of 11 at 7-1 at Wolverhampton over 5f but last turf win was a year ago and with much younger legs in the field, he will do well to get tenth win on this fast ground from 9lbs above last turf win..

Gary Moore's 4yr old maiden has been placed in six of his 19 starts and is better on the AW. Beaten a head by We're Reunited when second of 10 at 22-1 on his latest outing at Bath over 6f on Firm ground 31 days ago but has been raised 2lbs for that..

Won in April after a two year absence at 16-1 at Sligo over 1m 5f on Soft to Heavy on stable debut but raised 10lbs for that, given plenty of time of 57 days to offset the bounce but this Good to Yielding ground might put next win on hold..

Yeah Trident I worded it badly. You don't need to lay 1000 favs but you need to analyze at least 500-1000 favs to really know which ones are good and bad. Every variable matters.

Sorry G, didn't see your post. I am sticking to at least 10 runner handicaps and either fav or paper fav. If I think there is a doubt they could become a lay.
I won't get them all correct but it is only for small money with a large bank. I am in profit now but there are small margins either way until if and when I can make a profit..

LTO winners are very much layable but they are tricky indeed. Some winners get no respect from the market whatsoever and still win, often easily. E.g. some horse wins in a career-best performance at CD, drifts from 7 to 16 in the next race and wins again.

Is that the clown market I keep hearing you speak of Gaze?

Yeah. Look at Redredrobin in the 2.4, LTO winner, the clown market overbacked it, and it has no business being below 3/1, because the fav is at least 15% more likely to win.

Now 14lbs above CD modest 2nd beaten nearly 7 lengths also last July in a Class 4 and this Class 2 looks too much of a stretch.

Jim Goldie's fourteen race maiden has been running well and been placed four times since returning in April. Recorded a slow time over this distance at Ayr just over two weeks ago and looks better on faster ground

Empirestateofmind  at 10/1 finished 9th while Tafsir was 5/1 beaten over 4 lengths into 3rd

Cartmel 1-55 Prime Time Lady  8.6  1pt lay

The Mel Rowley 6yr old mare has been successful in two novice hurdle races at 2m and 2m 1f both on good ground in May last year. Beaten 1l by Hiconic when second of 6 at 9-2 on her latest outing in a handicap hurdle race at Warwick 30 days ago when no extra for usual jockey Alex Edwards.
Ken Dodd's nephew takes the reins today who is no wins from 17 with a 7lb claim to offset the 2lbs rise.

CD winner who has been successful twice at 6f on Good to Firm and Good ground. Trained now by Ian McInnes who is his third trainer, the 4yr old finished behind Caesars Pearl when sixth of 10 at 14-1 on his latest outing at Pontefract over 6f again on GF 18 days ago. The yard feel the need to reach for Alex Jary's 7lb claim instead of Paddy Mathers who won and rode the last two runs.


Newcastle 6-00 Fine Wine  16.5 Half Stake Lay

The Front-runner Fine Wine is a two-time CD winner who has won nine races at 5f including 6 wins on the AW. Beaten 4 1/2l behind Regional at 20-1 when seventh of 10 on his latest outing at Haydock again over 5f on GF 20 days ago.
Successful twice on the run in November and December off 94 and 99 in a conditions race but needs a career high now off a mark of 102..


Curragh 7-15 Barrys Rock  18.5 Half Stake Lay

8yr old who has never won from 18 runs with 12 blanks on the flat, all over the place with his trips and went close over this 1m1f last April with Gavin Ryan riding and now 5lbs above that mark. This is a very tough race with 22 runners and I am hoping Mrs Margaret Comer might have to wait a bit longer to venture into the winners enclosure.

Uttoxeter 3-52 Jungle Prose  12.0  Half Point Lay

Gordon Elliott's 8yr old mare really got her act together last season racking up a four-timer in October and November going up 40lbs into the bargain. Stopped in her tracks when raised another 12lbs and now top weight in this Class 2 handicap..


Cartmel 5-10 Monoxide  10.5 Half Point Lay

Irish Raider who has just one win from 41 outings all told and that was on the AW in 2018, has been placed in a hurdle race and two chases from 24 NH starts.
Beaten two days ago over 2m 5f by nearly 9 lengths and well beaten at 28-1 behind Charlie Luciano when seventh of 9 on his latest NH outing in a hurdle race at Downpatrick over today's distance of 2m 1f last month.

Charles and Adam Pogson's 7yr old who has one win from 31 races and that was on the flat at Haydock in 2019 over 1m2f.
DSQ last July for a banned substance when running off a mark of 74 and then paid the price for that going up 7lbs.
Placed in two hurdle races from 14 NH starts and let down his supporters again 42 days ago when beaten 14 lengths at 9/4f for today's 7lb claimer.



Pontefract 5-00 Patontheback  6.8  Half Point Lay

The 5yr old Patontheback moved to Gemma Tutty last August on a mark 63 and wasn't too far away on debut but because of a consistent level of form now finds himself 2lbs more after nine outings. Successful twice at 6f on the all-weather he is still 10lbs above only handicap win and it is now 17 runs since last win.


Southwell 5-50 The Longest Day  10.5 Half Point Lay


Came back in April after a break of 450 days and still to get off the mark after 12 races and has been placed in four hurdle run outs. Beaten 1 1/4l by Blue Sans when second of 9 at 13-2 on his latest outing over this course and distance three weeks ago and raised another 2lbs for that.
The stable feel the need for amateur Miss Roisin Leech to return and not use Liam Harrison who is here today for one ride..

George Mallory didn't have the pace to challenge and was beaten 2 lengths into 2nd, Phantasy Mac held on for 3rd beaten 3L. Favourite Patontheback was given too much to do but kept on for 4th while The Longest Day was a great horse to watch after laying it, scrubbed along as early as the first fence and kept to the rear beaten a whopping 73 lengths.

Has been treading water lately and I don't think he needs this 1m2f which seems to stretch his stamina to get back to winning ways.

Tipperary 3-05 Lake Chad  15.08  Half Point Lay

The Phillip Fenton trained 8yr old grey has had two wins over 2m and 2m5f in a hurdle race and a chase on Good to Yielding and Yielding to soft ground. Looked to be stretched last month just over 3m1f when Finishing nearly 5L behind Battle Of Mirbat when fifth of 8 at 13-2.
Has just under 3m to cope with today but is still 12lbs above that hurdle win in November 2021.


Brighton 5-02 Bold And Loyal  6.8  1pt lay


Long standing maiden from 23 outings who has been placed four times. Was 5/2 favourite 19 days ago for Kevin Stott who has opted for Ffos Las today when Finishing 3l behind Storm Asset when fourth of eight runners 19 days ago over 1m2f.
Reverts back to 7f today which again doesn't look a distance to get on the board and looks more of an each way chance.
