Some terrible grade races to be honest, Hostelry has the best current form and actually seems to run her better races on Good ground, for that reason I'am OUT. Happy

Thanks GC, terrible races are the best races, HOSTELRY made some late progress and CLEAN GETAWAY ran like his tail was on fire and will break his duck once he settles. While VAN GERWEN ran out of Puff.

Chepstow 3-00 Thismydream  7.0 Not to win

Yet to win a handicap and is only 1 win from 27 with no wins on turf, same mark as last time and reverts to 5f with Dam and Sire better over further..

Tramore 5-50 Mater Matuta  6.8 Not to win

Won this race last year off 6lbs lower but couldn't win off this mark in subsequence next two races, took advantage of  lower hurdles race last August and back over The Jumps today from out of the handicap again.

Laying isn't as easy as finding horses with 0 wins. When a horse is 0/15 and steams from 12 to 6, there's probably a good reason.
By:

Also recent form can be deceiving too. You see a horse finished Last of 10, 8 lenghts behind the winner 10 days ago on the same course and distance. Today it somehow wins at 15/1.

Thanks G and t, laying is hard long term, if you told someone who knows nothing about horse racing that backing losers is difficult long term they wouldn't believe you. Only bet what you can afford to lose and as long as it's all for fun.
There are no pockets in shrouds and all that..

Laying the top 2 is easy, long shots are tricky.

you're right I'm betting 10 hours a day with no stakes, so much fun seeing all those winners give me €0.

I am going out to watch the racing and final with my Dad and have a few pints with him, I will back these two later when there is a bit more money about.

Listowel 3-00 Half Nutz  6.8 At the moment

Half Nutz moved from Johnny Murtagh to Adrian McGuinness last February but is yet to win for his new yard, the 6yr old hasn't won above a mark of 77 and favours Yielding and Soft ground. The ground will be nearer Good to Firm today and runs off 79 again and might need to get back down to the Magic 76-77 rating and Softer conditions..

Tramore 8-00 Sovereign Duke  7.2  At the moment

Won twice over a mile and 1m6f in two stints for Henry Candy and now over in The Emerald Ilse for Joseph Hanlon, ran really well over 2m 16 days ago after 143 days off but this extended 2m5f 0ff a mark of 99 will be a bridge too far..

Half Nutz needs some rain and was beaten 8L while Sovereign Duke ran as I thought and was beaten nearly 11L

Listowel 3-20 Milajess   7.0 Not to win

Ran her best race finishing second 25 days ago in a maiden hurdle but race hasn't worked out with the two either side coming in last since and now back to handicapping raised 5lbs
By:
Brian
When: 05 Jun 23 16:14
I don't know if Milajess would have won (probably not) but still going OK when badly hampered I thought.

Thanks Brian, I listening in the garden on WH radio and just watched it now. Finished tired and beaten 18L.

Nottingham 5-10 Starnberg  5.6 Not to win

STARNBERG was suited by the drop in trip and won well over 7f 11 days ago but was ridden and headed over today's distance of just over a mile in the race before that and is now 9lbs higher from that day.

They have all lost so far G.. 8/8  You have to be near perfect with this type of betting and nobody and nothing is perfect.
See how it goes and even if today's wins I will still be in credit.. for now at leastLaugh

Never forget I laid one at Devon & Exeter 3mile Hunters Chase,it had never won a race was 11years old and had very dodgy legs and was ridden by a lady amateur who only won a race in Points. It rained all day and the going was heavy, the favourite in the race was Wahiba Sands who used to be a good horse.I saw this horse was only 20/1 so laid it for my whole bank which was several thousand at the time as I thought this will not get placed let alone win, there was 10 runners.Like a fool I never laid it off in running it went to 100/1 as I thought this is too far behind,it came from last to first over the last 3 jumps as all the other horses slowed due to the ground. This horse never ran into a place again at Hunters or Point to Points,so from now on I never think to my self this has no chance.

Even BSP 1000s can win like odds-on shots. So a 20/1 certainly can too. I wouldn't risk more than 50% of the bank even on a no-hoper.

laying is like walking on a minefield, it takes a lot of lessons to crack it.
By:
BULLET TOOTH TONY
When: 08 Jun 23 21:51
laying is all about being accurate with your pricing. however if you ;ay everything that is shorter then it should be, you get stung by the crooks who are having it off and their dog or horse all sudden has a renascence of how to run a race.
By:

When you back a horse you are trusting in your own good luck,
when you lay a horse you are trusting in someone else's bad luck.
By:
BULLET TOOTH TONY
When: 08 Jun 23 22:06
yes sometime you lay one and the bad luck lands on you. Laid a dog at Yarmouth the other night as I felt it would be to far behind, the leaders took each other into the wall and it left the lay to run on past the two doubtful stayers to win at BSP 6.8. I made it a 10 poke because it would need to sprout wings to catch them from the position it finds itself in with the pace angle. So yes someone elses badluck, but bad luck can happen on your lays as well.

Thanks for the in-put lads, my Dad is nearly 90 and backs mostly twelve favourites or second favourites everyday in the first twelve races, I have told this story before somewhere but I don't put the bets on now and give the money back to my mum. He does three 10p lucky 15's and yesterday had six winners picked from the Daily Mirror and won a pound.

That was his best day for a long time and when I watched the racing with him on Saturday he didn't have one winner but had a tenner on Man City from months ago at 9/4.
