New Ground being built-

2 Goals Disallowed by VAR today

VAR ONLY used in the Play-Offs Finals - Not in other Play-Off Matches ....

Nor - the 46 Match League Campaign.

Is that fair ? .... Surely, Should be one or t'other.

Up the Hatters. Been a supporter since the 1959 cup final.

Enjoyed the final tonight. Hate penalty shoot outs, not good for the bp.
Report madhatter May 28, 2023 7:44 AM BST
Hi barstool,
Can't remember 1959, was only 8 months old!
Been watching them since 1968 though and, apart from Raddy's goal at Maine Road and beating Arsenal in the 1988 Littlewoods Cup this was our greatest day ever!
Cheers,
Mad.

I’d forgotten about that game at maine road if I had of remembered I would have been cheering Luton on yesterday.

I think my cousin still holds the club's goals-per-game record from when he played for them in the 60's.
Report madhatter May 28, 2023 8:04 AM BST
Who was that then Ged....Bruce Rioch? Ian Buxton? Laurie Sheffield? Or someone a bit earlier in the decade.

Could of course just even be someone than scored a hat-trick in his only game?

And....is your username taken fron Ursula K Le Guin's hero in the Wizard Of Earthsea novels?.....brilliant books that I have read countless times

madhatter - John O'Rourke. The irony is that he hit the top flight with Coventry.

And yes, a bit (great book), and also my name.
Report ged May 28, 2023 9:05 AM BST
He would have scored more at Luton but he missed half a season when Peter Gelson of Brentford jumped on his ankle. In their previous meeting, Luton had won 6-2, and John scored 4. Gelson didn't want that to happen again.
Report madhatter May 28, 2023 9:09 AM BST
did O'Rouke go on to play for Ipswich?
I'm sure ther was someone of the name playing for them in early 1970's
Report 11kv May 28, 2023 9:12 AM BST
Yes he did.
Report ged May 28, 2023 9:12 AM BST
Yes, he went Luton -> Middlesbrough -> Ipswich -> Coventry -> QPR -> Bournemouth

Started with Arsenal as an amateur, then Chelsea, then got a free to Luton.
Report madhatter May 28, 2023 9:15 AM BST
Just looked him up in one of my many LTFC books....he scored 22 goals in just 23 Division 3 (League 1) appearances in 63/64 season, including those 4 against Brentford on 8th Feb 1964!!!
Report ged May 28, 2023 9:15 AM BST
Just looked up his record, he scored 64 in 84 games for Luton.

Used to enjoy going to games in the 70's,standing in the Oak Rd.

Great times.
Report madhatter May 28, 2023 9:19 AM BST
Scored 10 in 21 the following season and played 4 matched with David Pleat at the end of that season but didn't play alongside Bruce Rioch (his first season)
Report madhatter May 28, 2023 9:22 AM BST
Yeah, scored 32 in 40 games in 65/66 but left before the 66/67 season
Report madhatter May 28, 2023 9:28 AM BST
!!kv - remember the home fans would start in Oak Road (and Luton would kick towards that end 1st half usually) and then walk through the Bobbers Stand at h/t to stand in Kenny end for 2nd half.
Imagine that being allowed nowadays!!!
Report 11kv May 28, 2023 1:15 PM BST
We used to travel to all the home games on an old double decker bus from about 20 miles away, always packed.

Skinheads in white doctors coats, real fanatics with scarfs, badges, rattles and horns.

Missed the bus home loads of times.Laugh

Most supported other teams but we all followed Luton as it was easy to get to and always eventful.

Great days, hope they win a few games in the prem cant wait to see the looks on the pre madonnas faces as the leave the bus.Excited
