I've just got home and watched the race.... Frankie drifted his horse (intentionally probably) into the path of the 2nd slowing his momentum. It is clear the 2nd horse would've won with a clear unimpeded run. However.... 1) The stewards are gin soaked morons. 2) They would never throw out a Frankie runner and were probably asking for his autograph.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference in the final furlong when the winner FREE WIND (IRE), ridden by Frankie Dettori interfered with ROGUE MILLENNIUM (IRE), placed second, ridden by Jack Mitchell. The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved FREE WIND (IRE)’s placing in that despite ROGUE MILLENNIUM (IRE) being carried off its intended line by FREE WIND (IRE) drifting right-handed into its path, there was no contact between the runners and FREE WIND (IRE) was always holding ROGUE MILLENNIUM (IRE) on the run to the line to win by a dominant ½ length margin. Dettori was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he had allowed his mount to drift right-handed without correction, carrying Mitchell several horse widths off his intended racing line.

Apart from the winner pulling away at the finish, Stewards would have been influenced by Jack, who not only didn't stop riding, but seemed unsure as to what the fuss was about.

seen a few of these stewards where the jockey on the 2nd doesn't appear to want to fight his case too hard. maybe etiquette within the weighing room when they know they were on the second best.
