Did he  think  he had won ?

Stopped riding for a stride or two, then picked up again.

Not for me Tom , knew he was beaten then reason for snatch was thinking 2nd place was under threat for a split second so rode to the line after snatch.

All about interpretation though.

Only saw it once so your probably right, it didn't make any difference, it was just such a pronounced action that looked really odd.

Second place never under threat. He was going faster than that one. Stopped riding too early. Made no difference whatsoever, but an odd one. Couldn't see any markers/lines which could have caused him to do it, and winner well in his line of sight, so no way could he have thought he was in front.

My biggest bet of the day, placed at least, but thought was coming to win. Winner was nothing if not game though.

Clifford Lee, the rider of KORKER (IRE), placed second, had appeared to stop riding shortly before the winning post, before being beaten ½ a length. After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Lee’s explanation that the gelding had momentarily become unbalanced causing him to briefly stop riding for two strides, as a precautionary measure was noted. Being satisfied that KORKER (IRE) had achieved the best possible placing, no further action was taken.

Common sense decision , who'd have thought.
