The government of the day was dismayed by those crowds taking time off on a Wednesday. They forced the Jockey Club to move the race to Saturday in 1947, so as to reduce the impact on productivity in factories, mines etc.

I think it was just two run on Saturday, 1947 and 1948.

A tough winter I arrived in according to Mum.

I was the result of Mum and Dad making every effort to keep warm in that winter!

Tough time for all then with the country virtually bankrupt and shortages as well as rationing.
