Everyone is guessing Colonel but if you're going to guess then guess at the big odds , so that rules out the front 3 or 4 in the betting.

Look after your strike rate and the rest will fall into place.

Hayden, thank you. I have to disagree slightly. There are straight guesses and educated guesses. And as Donald Rumsfeld once said: 'There are known known, known unknowns, and unknown unknowns.' At this stage in the Flat season known unknowns abound.

SR had an Ascot 3rd on its CV from last August off a pound higher, and had form fresh ( won on 2yo bow ).

But, ground looked against it.

I can only suppose that if you fancy it anyway and you're getting 11/1, then perhaps trust the trainer's judgement that it'll handle the conditions.

But, two races in, it looks like being a tricky afternoon at Ascot.
