as for Rybakina...

i'm a massive fan of her but she doesn't have a great tennis brain imv...

gets a bit caught up in constantly hammering the ball and looking for lines...

she was up against an injured opponent and she kept belting it in the net / close to the lines all the time...

anyone with a brain would have got it to the other side of the net and keep it well away from the lines...

it was quite revealing tbh...

in saying all that she is capable of blowing folk away but i've seen her do that in the early stages then go through a real drop in form after that...

but it's your money so make your own decision but it's definitely one to reconsider imv.

Will take thoughts on board regarding Rybakina and add her to trading list , probably should have included her many months ago as she was considered but forgotten about.

Very few list players in action today but being Monday and early in tournament will be looking in on as many matches as possible , together with the IPL at 3pm.

tough match for Rybakina today...

i'm tempted to say she is too big but i think it's a match to watch the first set and take it from there tbh.

Just delved into my old notes , reason for holding fire on Rybakina being listed was winning the slam , just stated hold a watching brief and wait for any reaction but then forgot about her inclusion.

oh she was very impressive at Wimbledon Hayden...

destroyed Halep and overpowered Jabeur in the final...

clearly the grass helped tho and the lack of Russian/Belarus players too...

she is my favourite player for sure but i have felt as long as i have been watching her that she is one of those players who gets in the comfort zone and thinks she can just belt the ball and overpower her opponent...

and when it's just a bit off it can go wonky very quickly...

and obviously if her serve isn't working it makes a huge difference...

definitely the right decision to put her on your list Hayden.

Hibby, I've been thinking about the bet I mentioned. I could split my stakes between the French and Wimbledon. That said, iyvho which surface is she best on please?

Yes thanks Hib , i just have to remind myself that picking players for the list is totally different top picking good players i think will win matches but ALL about picking players in the top 500 that will both win and lose matches but with fluctuating fortunes and inconsistent levels of performance within a match , in other words create a spikey graph whether winning or losing.

Very similar when i'm picking a bad e/way acca , never pick horses with a profile to win the race but concentrate on whether they look safe enough to finish in front of the 4th fav , if they all win it's a beano but not the initial objective.

and in all honesty i reckon most of them are that way...

as always with trading it's a case of 'when do i lay and when do i back ?' and 'do i green up / red up / same stake on the lay and back'...

never straightforward imv...

i suppose you have your parameters and you stick with them is the best way.

There's a beauty , Alcaraz ( not on list but ) flip flopped from 1.02  , always worth a dirt cheap lay on front runners for the Open which is just around the corner , Rome a top masters 1000 event but it's not a slam all said and done , intensity levels can differ when top level try to play within themselves and just do enough to win.

think he was around 1.3ish when losing the 1st set.

After some consideration Hibby I've decided to go for the French with very small at Wimbledon. Reason being she has been ranked No 3 in the world and that has no doubt been helped by reaching the semi's of the French open.


As you said previously it would be best to bail out in the quarters or if lucky, the semi's. Lacks only a little inv but as you pointed out, good to watch.

Whilst delighted with the Alcaraz trade i missed a trick with not laying the 2-0 sets at 1.10 , these top players crave for slams and you just never know close to slams and the fact these top players can tank a set now and again and still know they're going to win match.
Particularly like laying 2-0 at very short odds when big name vs minnow with match odds under say 1.1 especially so when we hit the surface transition and top players are looking for court time to acclimatize , so basically they can tank through a set and many times they prefer to win 2-1 as opposed to 2-0 to get valuable court time when changing from the one surface to another stages of the season.

looked like Alcaraz got done by some superb drop shots Hayden...

can't see her winning either stewart tbh so best keep an eye on how it's going and bail out when you think the time is right...

and keep an eye on the draw of course.

One other thing to consider stewarty if you fancy a player and know you're virtually certain to bail at the QF stage , look for the best price for her to actually win her quarter as an alternative bet as the opportunity may appeal more when you look at the sums , always worth a lateral look to compare options.

Think it's down to a few things Hib , on reflection the initial tissue was too short , opponent in good form , as with other top potential slam winners RG is just around the corner , they've never met so nothing concrete to match against and Medvedev is far more beatable on clay than the road surfaces.

We'll see but should be good and a tough call.

I'd probably add one more note of caution for any lumping on Medvedev , he beat Zverev last round dropping 8 games but they detest each other so it may have taken an awful lot out of him , that said we'll see.

Errani been on the list for a couple of years , she's just flip flopped from 1.25 , not as much liquidity as you'd like sometimes on the Challenger circuit but enough to make it worthwhile.

Got a 1.14 lay of Medvedev but looks like a stroll at the moment.

Cornet the only list player still to come today so will follow that later.

Challengers always worth a look Hib as a lot more tanking goes on , as with horse handicaps it's the lower grade the better for me and the strategies.

Would in general rather get involved in a Challenger event than a Grand Slam for the way i play it and what i want to happen.

The spikes that appear in the South American Challenger events are unreal at times.

better player won for sure but it was looking a bit shakey wakey at one stage...

a decent trading position could gave been taken so there were opportunities for those monitoring the game closely...

didn't like Ostapenko's reaction at the end...

even the mild mannered Rybakina had a word with the umpire about it.

surprised Rybakina is 1.35 v 3.75 against Kalinina...

yes Rybakina favourite but i'd have her somewhere between 1.6 and 1.7 personally...

also surprised at the price of Tsitsipas v Medvedev...

not a huge follower of mens tennis yet but if anyone had asked me who would be a 1.73 shot i'd have said Medvedev...

should be a good game tho...

I think most of the semis are priced too heavily in favour of the favs. Tsitsipas you would expect to be fav v Medvedev on clay but I think the Russian gets into his head based on games I've seen and the h2h might confirm that.
I'm a big fan of Rune but this doesn't look a good match up v his Scandinavian brother and the opening 1.63 was very short looking v Ruud who's given him all sorts of problems previously.

all three Rome games today look good so should be an entertaining day i reckon.

Medvedev leads HTH 7-4 but only 1-1 on clay , hard call this one as odds suggest and Tsitsipas will need to keep his head as he's faced two consecutive players he dislikes most here in Coric & Medvedev , think it's only the surface though that  makes Tsitsipas a warm fav as we'll get to see outside the clay season.
Could easily be a trade for me here especially if it gets nasty.

Kalinina match expected to be a trade with all the ups and downs she's encountered in the tournament , whether the near 12 hours she's spend on court will affect her is anyone's guess , only met once in favour of Kal but this is a match up that should produce a few spikes.

Agree what's been saod about the Rune vs Ruud game as we speak and will lay low the first player to hit the basement prices.

Still think some of these top players will be wary of preparation for RG being so close , Rome a fantastic Masters series 1000 event but with Nadal out of the picture and Swaitek retiring injured the other day plenty of emerging talent will have their eyes on the French crown , Rune & Ruud both in the top 6 in the RG betting at the moment.
Every player would love to win Rome but they all know they need to remember how close RG is.

Swaitek a great example the other night , she retired early in the 2nd set but only after the one set completion rule constituted a result on here so the 1.02 lay was ultra sweet , she now says she's fine and will be ready for Paris so makes you think the retirement was a precaution as much as an injury concern.

Ruud flip flopped from 1.09 , that'll do nicely.

after a sloppy start Rybakina kind of got her act together and was on top when Kalinina pulled out...

first serve didn't really fire but Kalinina didn't look right to me...

personally i reckon the whole thing was too much for her...

she always looks like she is going to burst in to tears at any moment...

Rune v Medvedev looks a tough one to call imv...

1.83 v 2.24 is probably about right if you ask me...

should be a good watch...

Obviously no pre-match bet for me but feel Rune is a justifiably warm fav here , would be unfair to say Medvedev has rode his luck so far but he's faced opponents not classed as red stuff specialists and Rune will be a much tougher proposition today and may find it as comfortable as their only previous clay meeting of straight sets , as for the odds i'd make Rune around 1.6 realizing that on a hard court you'd have Medvedev the same warm fav.

Will await a trading opportunity but Rune to win for me.

You probably wont bother with the Men's in Geneva next week but just in case there should be plenty of shocks , played around 1500ft altitude so will take players time to adjust from this week , usually brings up some great spikes.

Just to add couldn't get involved in a trade for Medvedev as it stayed a bit above the 1.25 max price far an awful long time , so match was practically over before a trade at the appropriate time , that happens with trading in that i can end up watching a match for a couple of hours with no investment , good job i love watching the sport anyway i suppose
