I’m not sure if some will agree with or not but this whole year long Farewell Tour is completely unnecessary and not required.
I don’t know any other sport or line of work where this has been thing.
But to have an entire year where we’re effectively held to ransom by him deciding to retire is a sick joke.
I’ve heard commentators saying things along the lines of that each passing makes them sad because it’s one day closer to him leaving. There are genuinely people upset that yesterday was his last 2000 Guineas.
Fark me…he’s retiring…it’s not Logan’s Run and he has to die at 30. He’s still going to be here and will be on ITV the very next week lol
I love the guy but we don’t need an entire year of this.
Think about it…
Frankie’s last Chester meeting Frankie’s last Derby Frankie’s last Royal Ascot Frankie’s last Irish Derby Frankie’s last Goodwood
Etc etc etc
You’re actually doing him a disservice because by the time the St Leger roles around people will be like - fark me you ain’t gone already.
He's an absolute narcissist. Boring attention seeker. The media utterly predictable. Result, the maudlin **** the punter has to endure. Good job..........as ever

Unless you are one of the cheerleading media very hard to disagree.
Has anyone else ever done anything similar? Most people retire on the spot, perhaps giving their closest a bit of notice. He wanted the whole world to know a year in advance. Total nonsense.

+1 but it's the way of the world nowadays. Frankie chose to create this situation, the media muppets go way OTT and then they all try to pretend the situation is organic. Gonna be a long year!!

The Italian eyeballs scan the parade to see who is watching him…..I fear the depression will set it once he becomes a spectator and forgotten fodder…..

This is what you asked. I'd say it's similar. Announced way before necessary, months ahead. And was getting all the obvious 'last Cheltenham' 'last GN' 'last rides at this course', et al. It was not as long, but easily as cynical from someone who up to then, did not particularly court attention. Obviously Frankie is looking at getting 'finale' rides globally, not just domestically.

cant agree that Frankie is the most famous jockey ever, not many older people outside racing would know anything about him, but as a kid even my great grannie without knowing a thing about racing knew of a certain L . Piggot

elisjohn , Lester Piggot barely even got a mention om Sports personality of the year in December . Memorable only to people in their 50s 60s etc. . Piggot also got beaten inthe late 70s and eighties on horses through over confidence, Frankie made far less mistakes in his last few years. Also managed to stay out of prison.
