Loughnane thought he had it won. He's clearly eased for a few strides when he's hit the front then looks over to see the winner and starts riding hard again.

Billy the kid has a bad habit of looking at the opposition when he thinks he's going to win. I personally don't feel it affected the outcome today. Nearly all of them do it, but with him it is quite exaggerated. When I was going for my driving test many moons ago, my instructor drilled into me to move my head when checking my mirrors, so that the examiner could be in no doubt that I was looking in them.
