Remember the GC tried to launch this two years ago, so they will have already done a lot of background work.

They have to work out, in consultation with data protection regulators, how to share info. Which hopefully will take a while.

You need to remember we no longer have human rights or data protection

They got binned after "Brexit" ...

Congratulations this is your prize... Enjoy

Did anyone think Brexit meant anything else? It was all about taking power and bringing in their utopia

over 8 million people got a £300 handout from the UK taxpayer this week. all they have to do is ban them from online gambling, or opt out of the handout.

Surely most people will continue punting having proved
they can afford to lose a grand a month.

Might wake a few up too.

I'm not sure that they are covered by the Gambling Act

like most things these days, it's purely performative. the people regularly doing their nuts, and heading to the bookies from the atm on benefits day, will carry on unabated.

I can imagine it is Rico. For us pre race players who can only use the exchanges to earn a wage, its a very dark day.

The money harvested will be completely wasted - in public sector inefficiencies.

so not law, ok.
Spot on about the horse racing authorities Joe. Dereliction of duty by them not to be hammering away years ago on the case of racing(the only sport which depends on betting) being seperate from the gaming garbage.
Instead there was Rust doing the opposite and endorsing fobts.

Once this all goes through they will be emboldened. Stand by for the re-introduction of betting taxes on the slips etc. The country is broke after the Covid lunacy so everyone will be rinsed.

Little Jimmy can eat tonight (whatever he finds in the skip as i'm off down the pub/casino). Seriously, they can do what they want with slots etc as I have never and will never touch them, it may have been mentioned in this thread but those who gamble 90+% of the amount on racing (might be slightly more) and most of the rest on sports are less likely to be addicted than the general pop (or something like that).

On the contrary, high rolling Irish can come over to British casinos and lose as much as they like on credit.

Do you think people getting taxpayer handouts should be losing it gambling ? The theory behind the white paper is to prevent people gambling who can't afford it. By definition, if you need taxpayer handouts to survive, you can't afford to gamble.

Handouts should be vouchers

So you win £8k over a few months then give back £2k over the next few months and you’re in the net. Utterly bonkers .

Those in the shadows won’t rest until there is an outright ban on gambling.

Blazing that cant be correct, would imagine its the net position someone is in. I dont see how legally they can have any right to tell you how to spend profit..?

to be clear, they can't legally tell you how to spend your money period.

Property can include things like land, houses, objects you own, shares, licences, leases, patents, money, pensions and certain types of welfare benefits. A public authority cannot take away your property, or place restrictions on its use, without very good reason.

This is why they will never pass a law that covers "affordability", but are tasking the GC with trying it through their codes.

How it’s worded today makes it very much the case . Any £2k loss triggers the intrusive check.

it's completely arbitrary. to one person it's a fortune, to another it's pocket money. not to mention it will be eroded away with inflation over time.
