Credit where it's due, jumped poorly, looked beaten on the run-in, and rallied strongly to get back up.

A deserving win.
Report jimnast April 25, 2023 5:39 PM BST
Moscow almost did but narrowly beaten by rathgar beau at punchestown
Report Andrew.in.Sweden April 25, 2023 5:48 PM BST
My favourite chaser Sprinter Sacre won 3 and would almost certainly have won 4 but for an irregular heartbeat that kept him off the track.
Report sageform April 25, 2023 5:49 PM BST
Mullins cleans up almost E250k for having the first 4 home. Just one outclassed opponent. I have not bothered to watch Punchestown. That is not horse racing when one yard fields 80% of the runners.
Report clacton April 25, 2023 5:51 PM BST
Agree Sageform. Boring racing.
Report know all April 25, 2023 5:58 PM BST
nice 14/1 22/1 on here already so be a few suprises to come the 2nd against energuneme was very short in running even early on early on and it nearly came off i backed it to win and without the fav 33/1 and 7/1 he has a few nice prices and the multiple runners to fool a few but they all like the bigger prices now and again imo

I’m happy for Bloom…after Brighton lost on pens.
Report jimnast April 25, 2023 6:07 PM BST
Good job he entered them or it would have been a walk over ,great race to watch also ,
Report SlippyBlue April 25, 2023 6:08 PM BST
I get that Sageform but I enjoyed watching the race despite that and not having an interest in it either.

Why do none of the British horses bother to go to this meeting?
Report Mr Myxlplyx April 25, 2023 6:27 PM BST
Energumene over the £1m today. Tom Lacey must be a bit queezy.

Doesn't look like many racegoers either judging by the shots of the paddock and grandstand -mind you five days would be wallet and stamina sapping.

Report jimnast April 25, 2023 6:29 PM BST
Sprinter sacre went a few years ago and got a great reception.
Report strontium April 25, 2023 6:35 PM BST
Clan des Obeaux won the Gold Cup a couple of years ago. Bravemansgame runs there tomorrow.
Report jimnast April 25, 2023 6:40 PM BST
Paul Nichols does at least make an effort even at down royal
Report penzance April 25, 2023 6:45 PM BST
Love Envoi's entered there Saturday.
Report saxon farm April 25, 2023 6:48 PM BST
Yes penzance, Harry Fry often patronises this meeting.
Report jimnast April 25, 2023 6:52 PM BST
Twice won the stayers hurdle did harry

I can never agree about racing at this level ever being boring.  It is compelling, that;s what it is, and a fabulous spectacle.  It doesn;t matter who trains them.
Mullins is a genius and people want him to have their horses.  Hardly his fault that is it?!
Report Mat22 April 25, 2023 7:03 PM BST
Well Said  Honcho!
Boring old farts on here have not got a clue.
we are spoiled really. always a great festival. Thanks to willy and his different owners for going for it.
Report know all April 25, 2023 7:15 PM BST
love it these festivals at least you already know who is going to win a great portion of the races so you already have a heads up, the really sad dire racing is the sunday tv sellers handicap racing coming up and that good friday was about the worst ive ever seen, bookie tv racing, this 5 days beats all that hands down marvelous stuff
Report Hayden April 25, 2023 8:12 PM BST
Great meeting and look forward to every year , some punters need to realize the depth of quality in these top stables rather than just play one dimensional by putting a line through all the second/third/fourth string runners then moan when one of them wins , they're all there running on their merits with live chances.
Report sixtwosix April 25, 2023 9:22 PM BST
Still got to win another QM to equal the incomparable Badsworth Boy .....many have tried , all have failed........
Report LoyalHoncho April 26, 2023 2:15 AM BST
BB still the best technical hurdler I have ever seen.  Skipped over them as if they weren;t there with no change of stride.  Always a joy to watch.
Report jimnast April 26, 2023 7:37 AM BST
Price this race up Cheltenham 2mile good/soft

One man
Pearlyman
Badsworth boy
Sprinter sacre
Moscow flyer
Azertyuiop
Remittance man
Viking flagship
Altior
Master minded
Energuneme

I know crisp,Dunkirk and flyingbolt were also champion chasers but most of us never saw them.
Report sageform April 26, 2023 8:11 AM BST
I have seen all of those on your list and in my memory, Flyingbolt was different class. We can't compare what he beat with the placed horses behind the others of course but he won top class races from 2 miles to 3.5! Tom Dreaper kept him and Arkle apart but there would be no doubt in my mind that Flyingbolt would have beaten Arkle over 2 or 2.5 miles. The more recent ones were all good horses and in some years, there were 3 or more of a similar standard. I would just pick Moscow Flyer if they were all at their peak but Altior would be a close second. Pearlyman would be 33/1 against that lot. Just a decent handicapper who won in a weak year.
Report jimnast April 26, 2023 8:23 AM BST
Thanks for the input sageform ,which was the weak year pearlyman won as both the times he was champion chaser he had dessie behind him ?
Report Bentring April 26, 2023 8:56 AM BST
Thanks for the input jimnast
Report Storm Alert April 26, 2023 9:27 AM BST
Did Desert Orchid ever win a 2m chase going left-handed?
Report jimnast April 26, 2023 9:32 AM BST
He never attempted to storm .
Report jimnast April 26, 2023 9:41 AM BST

Skymas also won both races twice but not in the same years.
Report jimnast April 26, 2023 10:34 AM BST
Sorry storm that should have said other than in the champion chase
Report sageform April 26, 2023 2:33 PM BST
Perhaps my memory is defective but I can't remember Pearlyman being considered as a memorable winner compared to the others on your list. He was clearly the best at the time but was he anywhere near Azertyuiop, Master Minded, Moscow Flyer, Viking Flagship (although Viking only won by smaller margins) Perhaps I undervalue him because he came up from the Grand Annual to the Champion Chase. Call Equiname was a good winner but was only right for one season.
Report JJmbe April 26, 2023 2:47 PM BST
Deep sensation, Marthas Son were about at the same sort of time used to be some great 2 mile races .
Report Hayden April 26, 2023 3:20 PM BST
Yes JJ some really good ones that didn't quite hit the limelight as well , thinking of the Fitzgerald pair of Sybillin and Comeragh King who both used to look as if they were grazing throughout the race.
Report jimnast April 26, 2023 3:21 PM BST
I can understand the grand annual reason sageform but he did carry a big weight when winning .
Report jimnast April 26, 2023 3:23 PM BST
Jj almost every time deep sensation ran it was  a cracking race Declan Murphy gave him a great ride in his champion chase year.
Report jimnast April 26, 2023 3:25 PM BST
Always that sybillin was an under achiever Hayden, very short in his novice year for the arkle when beaten by travado, same year as deep sensation won the champion chase
Report JJmbe April 26, 2023 4:02 PM BST
Remember sybillin winning at Cheltenham i had backed it. think it was odds on chance, one bookie went 5/2 in the photo it won brought back some great memories seeing the horses name had forgotten all about him.
Report LoyalHoncho April 26, 2023 6:15 PM BST
Killiney was on its way to iconic stardom but sadly died as the result of a fall.
Report duffy April 26, 2023 6:28 PM BST
I had a soft spot for Sybillin who won the Tingle Creek after he'd disappointed in the Arkle.
