Reach for the Moon @ 7/1 in the Earl of Sefton Stakes
The Gosdon runner was a warm favourite at the Royal Meeting to land the Hampton court stakes and finished 2nd that day to Claymore and in front of Kingmax at odds on. He was the short price based on his performances in the champagne stakes when just denied by Bayside Bay (that one turned out to be a Group 1 winner when landing the QE2 Stakes on champions day) and the impressive win in the solaria stakes at Sandown beating Great Max by 4L eased. The defeat in the season opener in the Heron Stakes should've been an indication to its season, but that defeat was overlooked for the Hampton stakes as the favourable impression previously made by the Royal runner in 2yo campaign. The next 3yo race was well beaten in France and that was it for the season.
Today it returns with the Blinkers on for this Group 3 Target and is as big as 7/1 for this race. Once a odds on shot for a Group 2 Contest at the Royal Meeting, the hope has to be that the Blinkers work the oracle on the son of Sea The Stars and we get to see the true Reach for the moon. The stable has started well this season and Frankie is in the Saddle for his final season. Charlie Appleby has a pair so this is by no means a straight forward assignment and the french runner is a non runner. The ex-murtagh horse was beaten further by Bayside Boy then Reach for the Moon albeit 12 months later on. Poker Face is all unknown quantity as its a big step up from Class 4 Handicap to Group performer, but he was a facile winner of that handicap, but those to have run from that race beat very little next time out, so the form is put a little into perspective, so we will see today what he can achieve. Blue Trail brings impressive Meydan form to the table, but will that transfer over in this?
