I can see them having to reduce the size of the field , not much else they can do .

Well first you reduce the field size.
Then you change the fences.
Then you shorten the distance.
Then horses still die, so you do the same again.

Rinse and repeat, until no more race and then no more racing.

At some point, the authorities need to make a stand.

Somebody needs to ask "these people" what their end game is.  If they simply want thoroughbred racehorses to not be subjected to racing, they are effectively saying they no longer want the species to be bred, because that's what'll happen.  I doubt that's what they actually want either, they just don't understand the connection....

The best counter argument format would be more publicised coverage of the great way racehorses are looked after and cared for in most of their lives.

If there is an argument, then the evidence needs to be presented, just in the same way the 'ban it' argument is presented.

I agree Stu and not shy away from the fact that horses die every day on the racecourse.

They also die everyday at home in racing yards and every day as pets in fields etc, etc...

We have this weird thing about death now though.

Explain that this is a bloodstock/livestock industry, the animals are bred for the SOLE purpose of racing.  Nothing else, they are not someone's pet who has been coerced into jumping round a load of fences in a race.

They are working animals.  They are given the best possible care, but this is their job and they would not have been born otherwise and they will all be culled if it goes away.

I think the delay and the making up time caused the jockeys to go a little bit faster to the first...so you could say the protesters contributed to Hill Sixteen's fatal fall...bit tenuous I know but no more so than their own argument..

Greyhounds are like racehorses,commodities,house dogs/pets are totally different and not many are injured in a park

How would 1.3% look compared to 0.2%?

I have been a racing fan for more than 70 years and have seen many changes in that time. Some are for the better, some not. Despite the spectacle that the National provides, I do think (reluctantly) that 40 is too many runners charging down to the first fence. They are very evenly matched these days and every jockey wants to be near the front. The first 2 fences were not nice to watch but from then on it was fine. Every horse deserves the space and a clear sight of the obstacles, especially the early ones.

It would make absolutely no difference. Yes, these people that want racing cancelled prefer it if a horse dies in the race, but they are hellbent on doing what they want to do, anyway. I keep trying to make the point, this is a movement to cancel the civilized life that most people enjoy. They underlay all the attacks on eating meat, using fossil fuels, cars, language, family, history, comedy, culture, street names, language etc etc. If they got what they wanted, and the GN was cancelled they would just move on to the next highest exposure possible, so the CGC, Derby or RA. They might target them anyway tbf after this 'success'

It's highly unlikely, but the only way to think about challenging it is to understand the gaslighting that have led them to this ideology. They basically think that 'we' have oppressed the world, and everything we have and enjoy is due to that oppression. The only way to correct it therefore is to remove the ill gotten gains away and hand them back to the oppressed. It defies logic, which is why you can't win a rational argument with the 'believers'.

Hardly a success when their best efforts only delayed the race by 15 minutes. I agree that the people behind it will not rest until all sports involving horses are banned if they get their own way with Aintree. There are many things that I don't enjoy watching but I don't want them banned.

The main objective was mainstream exposure, not stopping the race. I suppose you could call Luck On Sunday the key 'magazine' broadcast for racing enthusiasts, and I think on the day after the biggest race in the sport they devoted the first 45 minutes to the 15 minute delay, and the demands of the nutcases doing it.

Racing has been terrified of the animal welfare lobby for 20 years and it was inevitable (if sad) that Luck on Sunday majored on that rather than the great stories about the first 4 home. I have not watched it yet but will fast forward the pointless welfare debate.

I know nothing at all about Nick Luck apart from what I see on the telly box. He is an excellent presenter most of the time, and tbf a pretty accomplished interviewer. But I sense that part of him sympathises with these types. If I was to place him in a political bracket he was be a in the 'Tory' one nation, eu loving mould. He would fit right in at the bbc.

Do the French experience the same predicament? They eat horse meat, do they not? The UK has had horse meat introduced into their human food chain clandestinely from the EU.

Not just from the EU, Impossible!.  Actually though, eating horsemeat would be a great asset to our food chain. It would be a great use of unraceable and redundant bloodstock. This, with venison, rabbit and squirrel, could render us self sufficient in healthy, low fat protein.

Horsemeat is tough, convincing the Brits could even be tougher. I think Brits find eating rabbit distasteful and wicked; chicken kfc is welcome.

How many horses die on an average day in fields or from riding accidents? Maybe all horse activity should be ended and the species allowed to become extinct.

5 horses died in 11 years in gn, im sure there are yearly jumps races in the calendar where more has died in that time
