It will always happen, no matter how hard you try to sanitise it.

Could run it as a flat race over 6f and at some stage a horse will still break down.

Racing needs to start standing up for itself.

I can see them having to reduce the size of the field , not much else they can do .
By:

When: 15 Apr 23 18:34
Well first you reduce the field size.
Then you change the fences.
Then you shorten the distance.
Then horses still die, so you do the same again.

Rinse and repeat, until no more race and then no more racing.

At some point, the authorities need to make a stand.

Somebody needs to ask "these people" what their end game is.  If they simply want thoroughbred racehorses to not be subjected to racing, they are effectively saying they no longer want the species to be bred, because that's what'll happen.  I doubt that's what they actually want either, they just don't understand the connection....

The best counter argument format would be more publicised coverage of the great way racehorses are looked after and cared for in most of their lives.

If there is an argument, then the evidence needs to be presented, just in the same way the 'ban it' argument is presented.

They don't have a clue obviously.

The whole cause is a bit bonkers anyway.

Are pets ok?  Because it could be against the animals will to be looked after.

Do they believe that rats and other vermin should be exterminated if they get in houses? Or would they happily live in an infested property?

And what about if I accidentally vacuum up a spider or other small bug when hoovering? Should I turn myself in?

They are all gods creatures!!

They think that thoroughbreds would lead a long and happy life in a rewilded forest, before passing away peacefully at the age of 30 surrounded by their family.

I agree Stu and not shy away from the fact that horses die every day on the racecourse.

They also die everyday at home in racing yards and every day as pets in fields etc, etc...

We have this weird thing about death now though.

Explain that this is a bloodstock/livestock industry, the animals are bred for the SOLE purpose of racing.  Nothing else, they are not someone's pet who has been coerced into jumping round a load of fences in a race.

They are working animals.  They are given the best possible care, but this is their job and they would not have been born otherwise and they will all be culled if it goes away.

That is the fences now though Ashleigh.

They go through them, rather than up and down.

Dog lovers love their dogs.I doubt you would let it run around in some competition if there was a strong chance it could snap a bone and then be shot in front of the family….

Imagine the thought for a second….

Er- what's greyhound racing then ?
Plus how many dogs that are pets injure themselves running on a park or in fields.

I think the delay and the making up time caused the jockeys to go a little bit faster to the first...so you could say the protesters contributed to Hill Sixteen's fatal fall...bit tenuous I know but no more so than their own argument..

Greyhounds are like racehorses, commodities, house dogs/pets are totally different and not many are injured in a park

Only when a thick owner lets them loose near a road…..

Some people are making the grave mistake that this is all about the 'animals'.

The orchestrators want to change our entire way of life. Advanced 'western' civilization as we know it.

Vegan actually, but no cars, no holidays, no travelling, regulated speech, no pets, no central heating, I could go on. The grand national is just a great target to gain maximum traction for effort as there are around half a billion people watching...

were they wanting to change your life 40 yrs ago when protesting at the national.when vegans were as rare as chamberlains winners,
point stands after events of last few yrs zarooni, elliot, mcnally, quinn etc chamberlain, scudamore ,fitzy etc are taking people for fools and thats at the top end of the racing game,
lets be honest if your defence of the game in middle of a protest on live tv is kate harrington partner of the bloke banned for bringing game in to disrepute by disrespecting /mocking a dead grade a horse ,some might say your not doing a great job, best saying nothing

40 years ago kids weren't being brainwashed with this type of ideology all the way through university. some of those kids are now holding the levers of power at many institutions. and 40 years ago, there was no internet and social media.

A horse died in the race. It is sad for all concerned.

It is life. Move on.

If you do not like to see it, or anything with else you dislike for that matter, do not watch it. Let others enjoy it for what it is.

Did the fatality Hill Sixteen a result of a fall or a loose horse/faller run into his path?
By:

5 deaths from 395 runners since they modified the fences...0.1% fatality rate
compares 'favourably' with an overall 0.2% fatality rate in the sport

the national is just a long distance handicap run over stuffed hurdles & its never been safer

peaceful protest fair enough but do not pander to these narcissists who think that everybody needs to conform to their views of the world

Direct fall I think IMP at the 1st ,I didn't notice ,I was too busy watching Chaz Fall off Cloudy Glen ,who then jumped the Next 14 fences for fun Before running out at the Chair , Quite a few of the loose horses carry on Jumping the Fences , They don't have to as there is an Escape ,Seems it doesn't bother them that much They just charge along with the Field

just another handicap pundits tells us 24/7 these horses are bred to jump, the loose horses yesterday were doing anything to avoid jumping the fences, the loose horse that brought down the harrington horse went right angles to avoid jumping the fence were told he,s bred /trained to do,
how many do that over the  park fences

Wonder

Could you show your calculations to arrive at this 0.1% figure from 5 out of 395.

How would 1.3% look compared to 0.2%?

I have been a racing fan for more than 70 years and have seen many changes in that time. Some are for the better, some not. Despite the spectacle that the National provides, I do think (reluctantly) that 40 is too many runners charging down to the first fence. They are very evenly matched these days and every jockey wants to be near the front. The first 2 fences were not nice to watch but from then on it was fine. Every horse deserves the space and a clear sight of the obstacles, especially the early ones.

It would make absolutely no difference. Yes, these people that want racing cancelled prefer it if a horse dies in the race, but they are hellbent on doing what they want to do, anyway. I keep trying to make the point, this is a movement to cancel the civilized life that most people enjoy. They underlay all the attacks on eating meat, using fossil fuels, cars, language, family, history, comedy, culture, street names, language etc etc. If they got what they wanted, and the GN was cancelled they would just move on to the next highest exposure possible, so the CGC, Derby or RA. They might target them anyway tbf after this 'success'

It's highly unlikely, but the only way to think about challenging it is to understand the gaslighting that have led them to this ideology. They basically think that 'we' have oppressed the world, and everything we have and enjoy is due to that oppression. The only way to correct it therefore is to remove the ill gotten gains away and hand them back to the oppressed. It defies logic, which is why you can't win a rational argument with the 'believers'.
