YES, should have been put in restraints and dragged into court like the lowlife he is. !!
Report impossible123 April 3, 2023 4:29 PM BST
I was not at his trial. If he was convicted without any shadow of doubt eg jury all found him guilty I think he ought to be hanged, and not waste more taxpayers money feeding and housing him in prison. I understand some might want him to suffer for his heinous crime and rot in prison for the rest of his life. But, hanging him would be the be cheapest and least painful option forward.
Report stewarts rise April 3, 2023 4:38 PM BST
They hardly suffer in prison in the UK do they! Totally agree should be hung.

He was upset by the prosecution singling we are the champions after the verdict he says it’s become a circus and refused to turn up for sentencing.
Report stattman April 3, 2023 5:02 PM BST
If you believe the press he wont last long in prison £250,000 price put up by other gangsters to silence him .

Should be put to death.

BUT, if the CPS (prosecution) were singing 'we are the champions', they need speaking with urgently. Extremely inappropriate and I'd bet it will be younger employees doing it because they have no sense of gravity about things. None of this was a game and singing was totally out of place.

Also, afraid to say that poor Olivia's mother needed to someone to guide her about talking to the highly toxic UK media.

She was quoted as saying she was 'ecstatic' with the guilty verdict. I completely understand she was pleased to see justice done with the verdict but the word 'ecstatic' was very wrong in such a tragic case. Someone should have been assisting her and explained that the word she wanted to use would be out of context with the whole terrible business.

All she need have said was 'Naturally, I am pleased with the guilty verdict and hope the forthcoming sentence reflects the terrible blight the killer has put on the rest of our lives'.

Lastly, the use by the OP of an exclamation mark at the end of his post is wrong, as well. It wasn't needed but exclamation marks are completely overused in this country and often detract from the gravity of what is being said. It did so here.

The scum should be in shackles hand and feet and paraded (walked) from the scene of his crime to the City centre of Liverpool. If so, I hope spectators will pelt him with eggs.

a few months ago someone refused to go to court for the sentencing and it made the news ,since then its happened a few times ,criminals maybe didnt think of it before that incident .Another thing is shouting abuse at the judge as youre being sentenced ,some guy was in the papers for doing it ,then ive heard od couple of similar incidents since .People are losing respect for any authority in this country ,unfortunately.

The Knight, not sure why you think my use of an exclamation Mark is wrong in my opening post and seems rather petty to me to mention it given what the thread is about.

Because the exclamation mark should be used to exaggerate feelings of joy or excitement. It has become horribly misused lately.
Report saddo April 3, 2023 6:40 PM BST
The exclamation mark (!), known informally as a bang or a shriek, is used at the end of a sentence or a short phrase which expresses very strong feeling. Here are some examples:

What a lovely view you have here!
That's fantastic!
Johnny, don't touch that!
Help!
Good heavens!
Aaarrgh!

Forty two years! A few more sentences like that and perhaps some respect for the law might return.

its 35 min for an execution...bit more here cos a bairn was involved.

Forty-two years is a large dose of porridge. He'll be a husk at the finish. It is a death sentence really.
Report impossible123 April 3, 2023 10:24 PM BST
What a waste of taxpayers money? 42 years keeping this scum in warmth and comfort. Why not dispense some justice to him? Send him to the gallows or chop off his hands. This will prevent him from executing anyone ever again.
Report Ramruma April 3, 2023 11:46 PM BST
I can't get very excited about prisoners not appearing for sentencing but it looks like they will legislate so judges can add on a couple of years for refusal. Maybe if judges pronounced sentence immediately after the verdict, it would solve this problem as well as speeding up the justice system.
Report sageform April 4, 2023 7:29 AM BST
What would be the extra expense of taking him to court in an armoured vehicle with an armed escort and then back again to jail? Leave him where he is or preferably give him some forced work to do.
Report formoftheace April 4, 2023 9:50 AM BST
They can force you into the back of a van or police car, cuffed, but not for court

Why should he get extra punishment for saving quite a lot of taxpayer money? The trial must have cost a lot and he was obliged to be present for that.
