Owners very unhappy.
When an owner didn't have a runner they got free admission to most meetings apart from the Festivals by showing their ROA card. The ROA picked up the tab. They are now ending this popular concession

Quite right no runners pay like every other person…ffs

Yeah, god forbid anybody else should have a benefit that you don't get, ffs.

Utter madness. Of all the divided factions in racing that can never agree on anything - and yet each claim that they "keep the show on the road." Shirley the owners are the only ones where that truly is the case.

Jeez, there will be a mob of ROA members crowding the middle of the track, common ground golf course at Musselburgh, having put a line on at Badcrooks before they went Laugh

Who would want to own a horse nowerdays?

Can't get a bean with the books as an owner...those that are lucky enough a tenner enough to spoil any earlier prices.

Prize money absolutely PATHETIC

1 nail at a time into the Coffin...

Next to come in the next couple of years is behind closed door meetings...

Before 2030, like the greyhounds I'd predict ARC owned horses trained by ARC contracted trainers...ARC call the shots where they run...you heard it here first.

Why should you get in for free if you don’t have a runner on the day Anorak…..justify ….
Report formoftheace April 1, 2023 1:22 PM BST
What about Middleham Park racing….

How many members?

Yeah in you come free of charge…..no runners…that’s ok….no it ain’t….imv
Report ItsMeSwaddle April 1, 2023 1:28 PM BST
Agree with most formy says but not that...we need owners?

As long as your horse isnt owned by say more than 3/4 you should imo be in for free...

Or simple, 2 tickets.
Report formoftheace April 1, 2023 1:33 PM BST
We need punters as much as racing needs owners but if I own one with Jim Goldie….I can travel to York Dante and walk in with a badge….no charge when it’s maybe £45 ….horse back at the yard…..
Report formoftheace April 1, 2023 1:36 PM BST
I think I will agree to disagree on this one…

Happy hunting….

And good wishes to all owners…I wouldn’t fancy footing a bill….
Report TheAnorak April 1, 2023 1:46 PM BST
The concession was only available to those that owned a minimum of 50% of a horse, so the Middleham Park point is well, pointless.

The courses clearly didn't have a problem with the scheme, as plenty of them would offer me two badges so that I could take along a friend. And it's not exactly free anyway, as ROA membership costs £260 per annum, which is a lot if all you get is a car park badge and a monthly magazine.

Well owners get 6 free tickets per race when their horse runs but I think the average over the year is about 2 per owner. They get hospitality when they have a runner and all this is costed into the entries. The free ROA admission is entry only and is just 2 (or only 1 in many tracks) free tickets. Many owners may only get to see their horses run a few times a year due to injury etc and not all owners are millionaires. Without owners there's no racing and of all the stakeholders in racing they put the most in and get the least out. Anyone who thinks they are not worth a couple of free tickets to a meeting are fools. We have one or two in training most years and use the ROA entry a dozen or so times a year, mainly in Scotland. We went to Carlisle last Sunday just for a day out(we have real interest in NH) and spent £40 on food and drink while we were there (same on Musselburgh on Friday). If we would have had to pay we wouldn't have gone. It would be madness to remove that concession and small owners like us may well decide to spend the £30/40k a year we spend on racing elsewhere.

F4rty shows himself up ass clueless (yet again) - but never lets his ignorance get in the way of commenting on things he knows nothing about.

Of course he is right, the industry should be doing everything it can to discourage ownership! CryLaugh

Won’t be long until the white paper diminishes the punter from racing…..they’re already walking..or haven’t you noticed…

Be sure to post afterwards and tell us all about it - it's always fascinating to hear your well thought out views.
Report formoftheace April 1, 2023 2:26 PM BST
I like many punters over approximately 40 years have given a right few quid, membership over 10 years for every track in Scotland, many tracks down south including York about 30 times and all other surrounding tracks

Food,drink etc etc etc

In return….couple of freebies….ffs…

Elite form of ownership….wow segregation ffs
Report truehoncho April 1, 2023 2:35 PM BST
I get the feeling Mrcombstible, they are going that way. These 'premier' meetings they are proposing and the contempt in which they treat low grade and all weather racing expose their elitist attitude. It's stupid really, the more people you alienate from the sport the more irrelevant it will become.
