I mentioned the clock shouldn't lie, especially at that track.

I don't wish to be pedantic onlooker but I think you'll find that the dam won four times from 25 runs.

Check it out for yourself....

top2rated - You are Not being 'pedantic' at all.

In fact  - Well done in referring to that Japanese website.

I merely looked at the Dam's Race Record (via Equinox) on RACING POST ...

- which is, now obviously shown, to Not be  complete Race Record of the Dam's outings.

First time I've seen the horse. Visually he seemed to get a soft lead, which didn't suit Westover who was keen early and could have done with a stronger gallop.

As for the course record, I wouldn't get overly excited by that given that the 7YO Broome also broke the track record by nearly a second, so perhaps the way the course was riding on the day was conducive to fast times.

Obviously the horse is a champion in his homeland and wouldn't want to knock him, but based solely on what he did yesterday when he was allowed to dictate, I wouldn't be getting carried away.

I recall an excellent Timeform essay on some great horse or other, which comprehensively dismissed the merit of course records as a means of judging any particular performance or horse.  I'd look it up if I could remember the horse!!  Probably late 70's/early 80's - anyone remember a course record breaker who was good enough to qualify for such an essay?.

Going slightly off topic here - anyone know why the SP of the first two were changed on the RP site to evens and 15-2, having originally been given as 10-11 and 7-1?

The 10-11 and 7-1 are still being given as the ISP on the Timeform and SportingLife websites.

From the Racing Post.

All roads lead to the Arc as Japan stakes global claim
World Cup night at Meydan turned into a Japanese showcase, with Equinox's Dubai Sheema Classic the highlight of the country's three winners.

This year’s carnival has been dominated by runners from the Far East, but the level of success on a hugely competitive card shows the strides the nation has taken in the international arena.

Derma Sotogake led home a 1-2-3-4 in the UAE Derby before victories in the Sheema Classic and the World Cup, the latter from Ushba Tesoro, who ran down the Simon and Ed Crisford-trained Algiers in dramatic fashion.

The performance of the night, however, camed from Equinox in the Sheema Classic. Japan’s horse of the year in 2022 made all in devastating fashion, tanking into the straight and never coming out of third gear. Beating a field that included the Irish Derby winner and several multiple Group 1 winners showed he is a major talent and unsurprisingly he is the new favourite to give the country an elusive first Arc triumph.

Blackbarn - possibly Gorytus?
I remember clock-watchers salivating over his debut victory against Salieri in the Acomb.
Report blackbarn March 27, 2023 5:34 PM BST
Decent suggestion gibberish, but not the one!  He did break the course record in the Acomb, but that record did not last long and had only been set earlier that season. Pretty sure the horse I am after was not a 2yo and it definitely broke two course records in its first two runs of the season. I will get there!
Report jimnast March 27, 2023 5:56 PM BST
Pyledriver must be some beast he beat westover 18 lengths giving him 11lb this horse beat him 3 1/2 lengths of levels having got a cheap lead.
