Only one winning day down about £400 on the week.

Enjoyed watching some great racing on the box. Well worth a bit of pain.

£130 up. £180 of that due to trading sir gerhard overnight. Mental note for next year. The reason irish horses appear very short odds wise is because they win most races

Have a specific Cheltenham bank each year. Usually am able to eke out a profit, however marginal. Must have lost about a grand this year, about 25% of the bank. I blame Facile Vega, Jonbon, Champ Kiely, Gerri Colombe, Fact to File, and that's even before we get to Thursday's punting disaster. I blame everyone but myself!! Lossiemouth and GDC, both AP bets, helped cushion the blow. Both Gerri and Teahupoo winning would have brought home some juicy multiples as they were matched with A Dream to Share and Impair et Passe. Fine margins alright. A great 4 days as always.

Down £325.  My worst week for a few years.  But I am almost exclusively a layer and I can see how backers could think the game is easy after this week.  At least Cheltenham week is exempt from affordability checks.

How many small punters lost maybe 10 to 15 quid all week to those snake oil salesmen. Simon clare and his coral mob. Big fat profit tantamount to a tax on the poor like the naional lottery.

About £2,500 up, all from Thursday. Eight horses in two yankees: two winners in each. If the winners had been arranged differently, returns would have been either better or much better.

My punting style is to look for bigger prices, so it's no good for me when the short'uns go in and the pundits say results favoured the punters. The big punters maybe, but most of us aren't Tony Bloom plonking down £400,000 at 11/8. That said, I did take boosted odds about Mighty Potter and Shishkin.

Other three days, lost owing to a combination of good things obliging and the wrong outsiders winning.
Report EastLower Gooner March 18, 2023 4:35 AM GMT
-£47 for the week

Also factored into that is a -£100 loss on the Arsenal to qualify at 7/10. I thought it was freeeee money lol

So considering that and mishaps like Gerri & Mighty Potter and that Giggingstown horse in the Albert B I think I did well in the end.

BraveMansGame eachway was incredibly annoying but only because I had to watch the race with no commentary while on a Teams call with work.
Report sixtwosix March 18, 2023 10:44 AM GMT
Not sure , possibly slightly up.

Put a lot of bets on.

One account where I £10 e/w single on a stack of outsiders went up from 1K to 2.8K .

However the various multis and perms I put on definitely have lost a chunk.
Report unclepuncle March 18, 2023 11:12 AM GMT
£1300 up mainly thanks to a £16 fourfold I placed after ther Dublin Racing Festival (Impaire Et Passe 3/1, Delta Work 10/11, A Dream To Share 6/1 and Galopin De Champ 11/8)- returned £2k but I laid off £500 at 7/4 on the last leg so only cleared £1100.
Also had a fiver double on Marine Nationale (4/1) and Impaire Et Passe (10/1).
I won £200 on the going market as well so overall I was a bit gutted not be more in front at the end of the week.

Report Celtic warrior March 18, 2023 12:13 PM GMT
In a lesson for all I laid galopin for £2,800 whilst getting drunk thursday night watching of all things 'COME DINE WITH ME' on tv. Just kept pressing that pink button. Woke up friday morning with a knot in my stomach and when I looked I had a cash out liability of £140. I spent the following five hours glued to the market waiting for its odds to reach 2.68, which it never did. I eventually got out of a £40 loss after setting myself a £150 max loss target. What a complete waste of a day when I should have been studying instead!

One of Mark Coton's defining rules in the racing bible ' ONE HUNDRED HINTS FOR BETTER BETTING' - never bet when drunk.

I blame it on the gorgeous new Brewdog stout, which i drank way too much of, but will turn off my tablet from now onwards!

I would love to tell this tale to the CEO of Betangel, Peter Webb.

My Best Outsiders were

Premier Magic 66/1
Sire Du Berlais 50/1
Affordable Fury 125/1
Gevrey 125/1

I put a stack and would have lost plenty on another day.....but fortunately plenty of big prices on Thursday and Friday..........

You can't really say WD rico without knowing what his exposure was and quantifying  the risk, he could of been red to the tune of 100k plus to make buttons.

Of course red don't matter when it's fast pics, great value taken but hardly gambling as most know it.

Not knocking it, admire his ability, but let's not call it gambling imo.

He once tipped a 1/1 shot to be in phurst six, but doubt it was his work tbh.

Checking more carefully

P&L page shows me £70+ up on Exchange betting over the 4 days.

Comparing before and after Statement balance was how I came to the under-£40 number.

Which means I chucked away nearly half of what I won from the Exchange on Placepot and "just-for-fun" Sportbook multis over the Festival.

Sobering.

I won about £200 (worst ever) with 4 from 6 selections obliging in multiples eg Impaire Et Passe/Lossiemouth/Constitution Hill and Galopin Des Champs; Facile Vega and Shishkin bombed out - the latter decimated 1/2 of multiples going onto Flat Classic races.

My 2 horses from the Festival to take out are (1) Constitution Hill (CH) and (2) Galopin Des Champs (GDC). The former will "walk" away with another Champion Hurdle crown if he runs, but I hope CH goes over fences then Gold Cup 2025; GDC won despite not jumping immaculately and giving Bravemansgame a start and a beating; a very decent winner unless the opposition were proven mediocre in the near future.
