Met Paul many a time, especially when he trained a couple for myself and friends some years ago.

Contrary to the Racing Post obituary, I always found him to be mild-mannered, pleasant and polite on the several occasions that I had a meal at his house/Stables along with an overnight stay, following a few beers.
Perhaps I was one of the luckier ones - although, I have always believed that you greet people in the manner that you meet them.

I know that he did have a major fall-out with one of his leading owners (what trainer hasn't over the years) an owner who was well 'able' of speaking his own mind.
That owner went on to have horses with Mark Johnston - so perhaps that became 'a marriage made in heaven'.

Paul trained a few for the Yorkshire Racing Club - Not (I do not think) the current Yorkshire Owners Racing Club - although, it may have been some sort of forerunner to the present one.

Met some of the (original)Yorkshire Racing Club boys at the races several times - Good lads, they were - perhaps someone may be looking in on this thread.

At peace now, Paul.

@Onlooker
My memories of the Yorkshire Racing Club:
I went to a few meetings at a Working Mens Club in Armley (LHS going up the hill towards Whingate Junction) and was run by Yorkshire Evening Post's racing correspondent (cannot remember his name), but it seemed a bit of a clique.
Went to a Cheltenham review and another time when Ann Swinbank as was was the speaker and defended George as a rider before I think it was common knowledge about them. Long time ago.

Think they were in the bus canteen before that in city centre. Remember travelling from York to see Jimmy Fitz.  RIP Paul Felgate  Will never forget Jonacris  one of the fastest horses I've seen.
