with AP, Ruby, T. Scud, Barry and tricky Dickie retired I would have to plump for P.Townend. Not because he has a few fancied rides  but a very decent pilot and if you need one this year I think he's the man plus it will be all important backing a horse with a good un doing the steering. (and the list is not long)

Any sensible views welcome.

What a strange reply. Would you back a fancy with Caoilin Quinn on board?

When did a Jockey last Win a race without a Horse underneath him?

4/7 Townend looks decent imo. Got it in the specials. Nico 11/2. Will phone Manny's tomorrow. Probably 1/2. If I can get on for a few bob I have another 1/2 in mind. Pays exactly 5/4.

It depends in which context, PT is obviously going to take a lot of beating for top Cheltenham jockey with all the WPM runners, but for actual horsemanship, maybe Paddy Brennan who doesn't get the rides he should.

I'm shocked stewyb has plumped for the jockey going to ride the highest number of FAVOURITES. Jeez, change the record.

A.in.S Brennan? One of these days I'm sure he's going to fall out of the back of his horse.

could nsme 20 flat jocks who would also have been unbeaten riding frankel.

Danny is the most improved and is good value @ 20/1 , esp. if anything happens to Paul.

Swiftynifty,

He has a good strike record considering he doesn't ride for a top stable. I'm obviously not talking in terms of top jockey at Cheltenham though.

Townend is obvious for leading jockey, but the Mullins winners will inevitably be shared around.

I have to say Andrew that post took me by surprise. In the last three months I haven't backed one of his mounts. A poor excuse for a jockey (IMHO). The amount of times I've seen him ride with his backside going up and down is embarrassing at best.

Furthermore I'm convinced Cue Card would have won at least one Gold Cup with a decent pilot aboard. He personally robbed that horse of a Gold Cup win, again, (IMHO)

Christ, sometimes it's like educating pork. Absolutely  nothing to do with riding favourites, the title of the thread to remind pork man.....

Who is the best jockey riding at Cheltenham this year iyo?

It doesn't get simpler than that..

So if Paul Townend had a couple of 100-1 shots and nothing else you'd be saying he was the best jockey riding at Cheltenham this year?

Pull the other one. He's favourite , you back it. I think we know the pattern by now.

Top jockeys seldom ride 100/1 shots. Hope this is of some help.

On the subject of educating pork your 'mentor' that you speak so fondly of, he must've had the job of all jobs, you are as thick as mince.

swifty fuming for talking p1ss. Pork a wee bit thicker than mince. That aside it's all about who is the best rider at Cheltenham this year. Nothing to do with how many favourites the jockey of your choice rides.
